Job Summary

The Position

Class Code 28353: Radiologic Technologist

Transfer job postings are for County of Sacramento employees only.
In order to be qualified for a transfer:

1. You must meet the Minimum Qualifications of the new job.
2. The difference between the top salary steps (the highest pay rate within the range of pay) of your current job class and the job class that you intend to transfer into must be less than 5%.

There are three different transfer types that you may qualify for: interdepartmental transfer interclass transfer and voluntary demotion. These different transfer types are defined as:

  • Interdepartmental transfer - a transfer in the same class from one County department to another.
  • Interclass transfer - a transfer from one job class to a different job addition the difference between the top salary steps (the highest pay rate within the range of pay) of your current job class and the job class that you intend to transfer into must be less than 5%.
  • Voluntary demotion - a transfer into a job class that pays less than 95% of your current class salary.
If you are requesting an interclass transfer or voluntary demotion either action is a change in class. Whether the change is a transfer or a demotion depends upon the difference between the maximum salary rates of the requested and incumbent classes. Personnel Ordinance Section 2.78.294 or the applicable labor agreement sets the criteria for determining the maximum difference allowed. Personnel Ordinance Section 2.78.228 defines demotion.

Under supervisionthe Radiologic Technologistperforms a variety of duties to prepare and position patients for radiographic examinations; expose and develop film; and maintain X-ray equipment and supplies.

Knowledge of

  • Radiographic techniques methods and apparatus
  • Methods of positioning patients for radiographs
  • Operation and care of radiographic equipment
  • Principles of X-ray film processing and developing
  • Anatomy for radiology
  • Effects of radiation and safety precautions relating to X-ray hazards
Ability to
  • Take sharp and clear radiographs of designated areas
  • Set and adjust controls and maintain X-ray equipment
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others including the public and co-workers
  • Read write and speak English at a level necessary for satisfactory job performance
  • Prepare and maintain records and reports
Employment Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a valid license issued by the State of California as a Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT).

Note: If the minimum qualifications include an educational or certificate/license requirement applicants must submit proof of requirements with the application. Failure to submit proof of requirements may result in disqualification from the examination.

Other Requirements

License Requirement:
Some positions in this class require a valid California Drivers License Class C or higher prior to appointment to this class. Failure to maintain the appropriate California Drivers License may constitute cause for termination from the class in accordance with Civil Service Rule 11.4. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Failure to retain a valid license issued by the State of California as a Certified Radiologic Technologist constitutes cause for disciplinary action including dismissal in accordance with applicable Civil Service Commission Rules.

Physical Requirements:
Constant walking or standing.
Lifting and moving patients.
Reaching and reaching above ones head.
Pulling stooping and pushing when operating equipment.
Manual dexterity as necessary to adjust machine controls and arrange attach or adjust supportive devices.
Occasional lifting weights up to 30 pounds.
Visual acuity for assessing orders operating equipment and positioning/assessing patients.

Criminal History and Background Checks:
The County may access criminal history information on all candidates who have accepted a conditional offer of appointment for this class consistent with the provisions of Board of Supervisors Resolution No. 82-602 Personnel Policies and Procedure B-5 and applicable Federal and State law. The County shall not consider for employment any candidate who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor that relates to or impacts the candidates ability to perform the job duties of this class unless it is determined that mitigating circumstances exist. For purposes of accessing criminal history information the candidate will be fingerprinted. A subsequent arrest notification may be obtained.

The County may also conduct a background check on the candidate prior to appointment to a position within this class. The background check may include personal and professional reference checks credit history check Social Security Number verification professional license/registration verification military service information and driving history. Information obtained in the course of this background check will be considered by the appointing authority in the selection obtaining such information the County will comply with applicable consent and disclosure practices in the Fair Credit Reporting Act and the California Investigative Consumer Reporting Agencies Act.

Working Conditions:
High voltage is applied during X-ray exposure.
Exposure to chemicals used in developing the films.
Incumbents work with ionizing radiation in compliance with State and Federal Laws. Incumbents are behind protective barriers during exposure. All personnel must wear film badges that are monitored monthly for exposure
Some positions in this class require travel to Juvenile Hall. Incumbents in these assignments must be willing to work in a locked facility around detainees.
