Job Summary

Overview:

Theater/Technical Crew Student Employees provide support for Performing Arts Center shows events and classes. Students will be trained on: construction and painting techniques for theatrical scenery industry standards for instillation operation and maintenance of lighting audio and film/video equipment and setting up risers chairs and music stands. Additional opportunities are available for Event Staffing and Backstage Crew. This is an excellent opportunity for hands on learning in a group environment.

Hours Available: 15-20 hrs/week

Schedule Flexibility: Flexible hours with regular weekly shop hours available from 1PM-5PM. Evening and weekend hours will fluctuate depending on assignments accepted/refused. Once accepted students are expected to follow through with their determined schedule with minimal adjustments.

Tasks Duties and Responsibilities (TDRs) and Learning Outcomes

  • Construction and painting of scenery and furniture

CD TW

  • Instillation operation and maintenance of lighting audio and video equipment

TC TW

  • Event staffing and backstage conventions - Student Employees are expected to move scenery and set up props with minimal supervision.

CT

  • Provide support for Performing Arts Center shows events and classes including but not limited to: moving risers furniture and class equipment.

PF TW

  • Communicate with staff and supervisor regarding any challenges or issues that arise during each assignment and collaborate with staff in finding resolutions.

CM CT PF

  • Complete other projects as assigned

Candidate Qualifications (Knowledge Skills and Other Abilities or KSOAs)

  • Must be a currently enrolled at Oakton College in at least 6 credit hours during the Fall and Spring semesters. Employment over the summer is allowed for students taking at least 1 credit class during the summer or students continuing registration into the following Fall semester.
  • Must have an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher and be in good standing at Oakton College.
  • Eligible to work in the United States.
  • Friendly flexible able to work on a team and be good with your hands.
  • Must be able to lift 15lbs regularly
  • Must be able to wear personal protective gear correctly
  • Ability to safely climb ladders and work at heights preferred
  • Experience in theater art film or photography is a plus but not necessary.
