What will the work look like for me

We are currently seeking a Test and Calibration Process Engineer to be part of our team. The Test and Calibration Manufacturing Process Owner Group (TCMPOG) provides global leadership and process development support for manufacturing test programming calibration configuration and verification systems across Daktronics factories and business units. This position is responsible for developing deploying and supporting capable and robust methods for testing programming calibration configuration and verification of Daktronics products with a specific focus on electronic hardware display control systems manufacturing automation and manufacturing verification. The engineer will partner with Manufacturing Quality Engineering Customer Service suppliers and third-party vendors to ensure manufacturing readiness product quality and standardized global processes.

Responsibilities:

  • Support Daktronics Vision and Mission while developing and ensuring capable reliable and supportable test programming calibration configuration and verification systems and processes in manufacturing.
  • Own and lead projects successfully from start to finish.
  • Act as or become a subject matter expert for test fixture equipment and processes. Provide consulting leadership and demonstrate ownership of test fixtures or related systems during their development and use. Support vision development advancement and lifecycle planning.
  • Act as or become a subject matter expert for NovaStar display control equipment and associated manufacturing processes including system setup configuration programming troubleshooting validation deployment and operator or technician training.
  • Support manufacturing verification systems and processes used to validate product functionality configuration calibration results and manufacturing readiness.
  • Develop and support manufacturing processes for display controllers receiver cards calibration systems vision systems networking equipment and related electronic hardware platforms.
  • Serve as the liaison between manufacturing factories Quality Engineering Customer Service suppliers and third-party vendors to improve and standardize test programming calibration configuration verification systems and processes. Provide escalated factory support as necessary.
  • Support global factory onboarding product and process transfers product launches training process qualification and implementation of new manufacturing technologies.
  • Seek input from manufacturing customers regarding opportunities to improve cost/quality/delivery/readiness. Develop plans and act on this input to improve reliability supportability and throughput of Test and Calibration systems in manufacturing.
  • Develop and document requirements for test programming calibration configuration display control and verification systems and processes as applicable. Support development and readiness of training materials documentation work instructions procedures and reference documents.
  • Take initiative to solve problems and lead collaborative efforts to improve and standardize the status quo. Utilize quality tools and accepted documentation methods and problem-solving tools to identify root cause countermeasures and corrective actions or support continuous improvement.
  • Work with appropriate vendors and third-party resources to develop and ensure robust test program and calibration processes and advance our technology and knowledge base as applicable.
  • Perform or specify qualification processes for related systems to ensure a high level of readiness in Manufacturing Customer Service or at vendors. Escalate any concerns and develop countermeasures as appropriate.
  • Assist with the testing and build of prototypes/pre-production units and assist with the manufacturing release process to ensure readiness.
  • Develop test/programming/configuration standards for related systems and subject matter. Provide applicable training to operators engineers and technicians.

Qualifications

To be considered for Test and Calibration Process Engineer we require the following:

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering Electronics Engineering Technology Computer Engineering Manufacturing Engineering or a related field.
  • Must have electrical mechanical and technical aptitude with the ability to learn on the fly.
  • Able to work on own and be a self-starter. Good time management skills required.
  • Effectively exercise discretion and independent judgment.
  • Ability to interact and collaborate with a variety of manufacturing and engineering employees in a positive professional manner.
  • Ability to lead projects and coordinate the work of others to ensure project deadlines are met and expected results are achieved.
  • Knowledge of and/or capacity to learn the detailed workings of many different types of testing and programming equipment.
  • Ability to lead or carry out troubleshooting efforts either in person or remotely to support escalations.
  • Wear all protective equipment as required in work area. Items may include the following: safety glasses safety shoes/boots hearing protection protective garments etc
  • Physical Requirements include:
    • The ability to lift and carry heavy (up to 45 pounds) and/or awkward items.
    • Must be able to stand and/or sit for the full shift and have full range of motion as required for the position.
    • Required to distinguish and identify colors (wires paint etc.) as it pertains to the position.
    • Work with some odors (paint solder welding coating etc.) associated with a manufacturing environment.
  • The selected individual must be able to travel by air and ground and comply with the Daktronics Driver Eligibility Policy to begin and maintain employment. This requirement will be verified through a motor vehicle record (MVR) check conducted in accordance with applicable federal state provincial and local laws.
  • Fluent in English written and verbal.
  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.

Desired traits

  • Electronic hardware design electrical design test fixture design and development or manufacturing systems development experience.
  • Mechanical design and PLC programming experience.
  • Some programming/scripting ability and/or National Instruments test equipment or software experience preferred.
  • Experience with NovaStar display control systems processors receiver cards calibration workflows or related LED display technologies is preferred. Candidates without direct NovaStar experience must demonstrate the ability to quickly learn complex technical systems and be willing to attend NovaStar training courses or certification programs as needed.
  • Manufacturing test systems automated test equipment calibration systems or final assembly verification systems.
  • Vision systems or machine vision applications.
  • Global manufacturing support supplier support factory onboarding or product and process transfer activities.
  • Technical training development standards development and process documentation.

Global Factory Support & Travel Requirements:

  • This position supports global manufacturing operations and may require participation in meetings outside normal working hours to support international factories project activities training product launches and escalations. Flexibility is expected during critical project or manufacturing needs.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid passport required visas and other travel documentation or authorizations.
  • Must be eligible and willing to travel to China Mexico Ireland and other domestic or international manufacturing locations based on business needs.
  • Domestic and international travel may be required to support factories suppliers onboarding activities product and process transfers product launches training process qualification and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ability to work effectively across cultural language time-zone and geographic boundaries while supporting global manufacturing teams.
