This role you will be involved in ensuring coordination of department efforts to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency in meeting production volume and quality standards. Reporting directly to the Manufacturing Manager.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Directly manages and supervises assigned Technical Supervisor including but not limited to their annual performance reviews monitoring of goals developmental plans and setting competencies in company performance management system.
- Provide leadership to Technical Supervisor to achieve all goals including safety quality schedule attainment indirect labor efficiency scrap overtime and material usage variance within budget.
- Perform duties in absence of the manager.
- Accounts for efficiency and productivity levels to meet company objectives.
- Develops technical workforce requirements necessary to support the production schedule.
- Coordinates and communicates production priorities and technical employee availability plans with other manufacturing managers and appropriate departments.
- In conjunction with Technical Supervisors define and drive standardized operating procedures (SOPs) throughout the department.
- Works with technical supervisors and HR/Safety/Quality in the preparation of instructions and training of associates on safety skills and quality.
- Works with Maintenance and Tool & Die Department to coordinate repair and maintenance in accordance with production requirements.
- Works with Material and Process department in the optimum utilization of raw materials.
- Works with New product development in the success of new products that are going to be processed in the plant.
- Supports productivity projects initiating and leading significant cost-saving continuous improvement projects.
- Implement maintain and enforce 5S discipline throughout the technical department.
- Initiates implements and encourages the use of lean manufacturing tools in areas supervised.
- Ensures satisfactory quality and quantity of work for technical department.
- Communicates effectively with subordinates peers and senior management.
- Ensures fair and equitable treatment of all associates under his/her supervision.
- Ensures that all associates comply with policies and regulations according to safety OSHA and any applicable Company policies and procedures.
- Participate in the development of machine and mold maintenance programs with the Maintenance and Tool & Die departments.
- Supervise daily regrind operations including the proper disposal of purge and worms contaminated regrind and defective foam parts. Partner with Materials and Process Technicians to monitor regrind activities support improvement projects and follow up on initiatives aimed at reducing defective parts and minimizing unnecessary regrinding at the machines.
- Analyze performance metrics and present improvement plans
- Participate in developing and implementing corrective actions for official rejections sent to the MRB (Material Review Board)
- Present monthly improvement projects during Gemba Kaizen meetings
- Assist the engineering department in implementing continuous improvements
- Develop and maintain a strong internal career progression pipeline for technical positions by identifying and developing high-performing employees at each level. Provide opportunities for advancement from Operator to Material Technician Material Technician to Setup Technician and Setup Technician to Process Technician creating a motivated workforce while building internal talent and supporting succession planning and backfilling of open positions.
- Improve communication and follow up on reported machine/mold issues with night-shift superintendents
- Provide status reports on the areas peripheral equipment
- Establish improvement strategies for setup (SMED) cycle time color changes and material usage (addressing discrepancies)
- Lead cleaning and maintenance activities during the annual inventory week and oversee special projects in collaboration with the Technical team to support equipment reliability operational efficiency and overall plant readiness.
