Job Summary

Job Summary: Supports students in all areas of academic success. The Academic Interventionist will be responsible for creating effective routines to support work completion and academic support monitor student learning and consult with core classroom teachers to support success. Provides individual and/or small group instruction to students as necessary.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Other duties may be assigned.

  • Creates a safe positive and growth-focused learning environment.
  • Manages daily operations in the Academic Resource Center and delivers instruction using the schools lesson planning approach (PLN).
  • Uses data to provide instruction to students and bring their skills to grade-level.
  • Analyzes data to inform program improvements and individual interventions for students.
  • Monitors students grades and work completion through collaboration with core teachers and the schools grading program.
  • Provides diagnostic assessments for students as needed.
  • Perform all duties associated with being a member of the faculty including in particular serving as an advisor.
  • Participates actively in the schools Education Support Team including recommendations for intervention plans.

Supervision Received: Reports to receives daily work assignments and is evaluated by building Principal.

Supervisory Responsibilities: No supervisory responsibilities.

Qualification Requirements:

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each job function in an efficient and compliant manner.   1. Education: Secondary education degree in Education.
  2. Experience: Minimum of five (5) years successful classroom teaching.
  3. Language Skills: Advanced fluency in listening speaking reading and writing. Exceptional reading and writing skills in English to review advanced student work and craft assessments.
  4. Mathematical Skills: Must be able to diagnose student misconceptions articulate mathematical reasons and help teachers connect concrete representations to abstract concepts.
  5. Reasoning Ability/Mental Requirements: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations in a safe efficient manner. Must be able to multi-task to meet objectives on time.
  6. Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Highly effective interpersonal and group communication skills. Ability to communicate courteously efficiently and effectively with a variety of individuals including students faculty administrators parents and representatives of outside organizations and staff. Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with peers subordinates supervisors parents and outside agencies. Ability to effectively resolve conflicts.
  7. Other Skills and Abilities:
  • 1. Strong knowledge base of theoretical research pertinent to instruction best-practices.
  • 2. Proficiency in computers/technology applications word processing spreadsheets email internet integration presentations and research.
  • 3. Familiarity with laws and regulations governing education in Vermont.
  • 4. Proficiency in inquiry-based and problem-based pedagogy and other 21st century best-practice strategies.
  • 5. Strong work ethic self-directed self-motivated.
  • 6. Significant experience in secondary whole school reform.
