Job Summary

The City of Independence is seeking highly motivated solutionoriented individuals to join the Technology Services Department. As a member of the Technology Services team the Systems Administrator I will be part of a culture of innovation initiative and collaboration. Guided by the Citys Strategic Plan this position provides opportunities to showcase technical expertise and ingenuity. This role works as part of a team to install maintain and troubleshoot technology systems that support public safety operations for the Police Department. The Systems Administrator I will contribute to developing service delivery standards and best practices and will serve as a subject matter expert for the Citys public safety technology Duties & Responsibilities Assist in support and troubleshooting of computer hardware software telephones and networksAssist in designing upgrading and troubleshooting IT systemsAssist in providing specifications for various technology systems architectureResponsible for monitoring IT hardware operations to ensure proper configurationsPrepare for and implement enhancements and upgrades to IT systemsAdvise network users of hardware requirements configurations and limitationsEvaluates and reports on new technologies to enhance capabilities of the networkKnowledge Skills & AbilitiesPersonal computers printers scanners computer software applications local area networks cell phones and business telephone operationsNetwork Routing and Switching fundamentals such as vlan spanning tree trunking IP addressing/subnetting and ethernet standards copper and fiber design and installationsWireless infrastructure design and managementvmWare Virtual Server ManagementActive Directory Domain Services including Domain Controllers DHCP DNS Group policyAzure PrinciplesRole-Based Access Controls (RBAC)Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) principlesNetwork Security fundamentals including perimeter endpoint server mobile and cloudPBX and Cloud telephony (UCaaS)Effective prioritization and time management techniquesAbility to effectively deliver clear detailed and correct verbal and written communication predicting questions and concerns understanding opposing ideas concepts and to research define and validate a variety of information and statistical data and to identify prioritize delegate and complete required tasks in the manner and timeframe Qualifications:Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in an applicable area of study and a minimum of four (4) years progressively responsible experience performing the above and related duties; or any combination of education training and experience which provides the required knowledge skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. A valid drivers license is complete required NIMS level training within the first six months of Demands: Frequently required to walk sit and kneel use hands to finger handle or feel reach with hands and arms climb or balance talk or hear and occasionally lift and/or move up to approx. 10 testingBackground CheckIn addition to the application testing and/or examinations may be required for further consideration on this to the 24/7 nature of IT systems this role is up to 100% on-site work.
