**International travel may be required. Possible straight time overtime and a 9/80 work schedule (every other Friday off) **
Responsibilities
As a SWME Project Managerthis work may include:
- Perform project management for a spacesuit water membrane evaporator development project
- Manage the overall efforts related to systems engineering project engineering test engineering and logistics engineering
- Manage the project team and their activities
- Provide budgeting forecasting and cost estimating support
- Monitor cost performance for the project against the established plan
- Develop and maintain financial reports
- Develop and manage project schedule
- Oversee the development of procedures work instructions and process flows
- Manage project risks and opportunities and ensure that a structured risk and opportunity process is followed
- Assess how program level changes impact project requirements and execution
- Interface frequently with inter-organizational disciplines NASA personnel and vendors
- Work with the lead systems engineer to meet technical and performance goals
- Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
- Typically requires a Bachelors degree in Engineering with minimum of 2-5 years of experience in the field or related area
- Understanding of complex spacesuit thermal control systems development and operations processes.
- Experience managing and leading engineering projects
- Experience with financial reporting including budgeting forecasting and cost estimating
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and will be expected to effectively interact with customers and management at all levels
- Ability to coordinate support from a wide range of technical disciplines
- Ability to work independently and autonomously and track tasks and issues to completion
- Knowledge of commonly used concepts practices and procedures in the field such as mechanical system design engineering drawings and sketches material selection environmental testing and office software
Preferred
- BS degree in engineering from an accredited engineering school and a minimum of fourteen (14) years of direct engineering experience or a MS degree from an accredited engineering school and twelve (12) years of direct engineering experience or Ph.D. degrees and nine (9) years direct engineering experience
- Familiar with Johnson Space Center (JSC) organizations processes and procedures
- Prior experience working in a system development project/program
Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position.
Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
Management has the prerogative to select at any level for which the position is advertised.
Essential Functions
- Work Environment - Generally an office environment but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.
- Physical Requirements - Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).
- Equipment and Machines - Standard office equipment (PC telephone printer etc.).
- Attendance - Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
- Other Essential Functions - Professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
