This National Guard position is for a SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC Position Description Number NGD1195000and is part of CSMS 1. This is a permanent Title 32 Dual-Status position.

- Title 5 National Guard Employees (NGE): permanent employees (tenure group 1 2 or 3) with military membership in the South Dakota Army National Guard
As a SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC WGyou will:
This position is located in the Joint Forces Headquarters-State Logistics Directorate (J-4) Surface Maintenance Facility. The purpose of this position is to troubleshoot repair maintain inspect and/or overhaul a variety of complex combat tactical commercial and special purpose vehicles and equipment having complicated mechanical and non-mechanical systems with a variety of interconnected systems. Provides technical guidance and specialized team leadership to lower grade employees.

- Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
MILITARY REQUIREMENTS:Open to the following ranks: Enlisted thru CW2. Military grade inversion within the full-time work force is not permitted. The military grade of the full time supervisor must equal or exceed the military grade of personnel supervised.
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates knowledge of equipment to be able to do routine jobs simple preventative maintenance tasks and is able to use common tools and equipment in the line of work.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least 18 months experience or training diagnosing repairing overhauling and modifying more complex vehicles equipment and more complicated systems. Experience which has provided a thorough knowledge of diagnostic equipment. Experience applying independent judgment in determining methods and techniques required to solve unusually complex maintenance and repair problems. Experienced in testing inspecting and evaluating the work performed on vehicles equipment and systems.
Knowledge Skill and Abilities (KSAs): Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit a separate sheet(s) addressing the Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs) and how they relate to work experience education or training. This document will be used to determine the PAY GRADE to which an applicant may qualify.
- Knowledge of the mechanical makeup operation and working relationships of complex interconnecting systems.
- Skill to diagnose and repair interconnected complex systems.
- Skill to repair or overhaul major components (i.e. diesel multi-fuel or gasoline engines turbine engines automatic and manual transmissions drive line assemblies electrical and electronic systems and accessories fuel injection systems and emission control systems).
- Skill to use a variety of test and diagnostics equipment.

MILITARY INCENTIVES:
Military Technicians are ineligible for military enlistment retention and student loan repayment bonuses. Acceptance of a Technician position over 180 days will result in suspension or termination of these military incentives.
