Job Summary
About This Position
Under general direction and with extensive latitude for initiative and independent judgment supervise plan and coordinate the research crime information and analysis activities in support of the Austin Police Department.
Essential duties and functions pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
Performs advanced-level tactical strategic administrative and location analyses and oversees associated products and projects including complex information requests from stakeholders such as City Council City departments or urgent public information requests.
Performs analytical support for public safety by responding to unplanned City critical events (weather/person related events) outside normal business hours.
Analyzes digital evidence and telecommunications records conducts in-depth research and testifies as subject matter experts.
Analyzes various data related records returned from search warrants or subpoenas compiles analytical products and creates stakeholder presentations.
Determines and implements goals objectives and resource requirements for activities within the assigned unit.
Develops revises and implements standard operating procedures governing the unit and ensures compliance.
Stays abreast of the latest crime and intelligence analysis theories and techniques and new information technology in the industry through research and monitoring of crime and intelligence analyst servers.
Educates the public and law enforcement personnel on crime trends and prevention through presentations training courses and by developing reading material and websites.
Trains new and tenured crime analysts on contemporary analytical practices case law and other relevant topics.
Facilitates attends and participates in unit departmental and professional meetings.
- Responsible for the full range of supervisory activities including selection training evaluation counseling and recommendation for dismissal.

- Graduation with a Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Criminal Justice Social Science or in a field of study with an emphasis on research or analysisfive (5) years of experience in research crime analysis intelligence analysis and/or interpretation of law enforcement data.
- Graduation with a Masters degree from an accredited college or university in the fields of study listed above may be substituted for experience up to a maximum of two (2) years.
- Experience may substitute for education up to a maximum of four (4) years.
- Certification by a professional organization in crime or intelligence analysis may substitute for one (1) year of experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Intermediate to advanced level of experience with the Microsoft Office suite of products.
- Experience implementing crime reduction initiatives.
- Experience working in a law enforcement agency.
- Extensive experience in the field of crime and intelligence analysis with working knowledge of various policing and analytical techniques models and theories.
- Advanced-level experience with conducting research in crime/intelligence analysis producing products and presenting to sworn and professional staff.
- Experience with various tools software and technologies utilized in law enforcement and crime/intelligence analysis.
- Ability to travel to different work location.
The Crime Intelligence Analyst Supervisor will be responsible for planning coordinating and reviewing analytical assignments for staff under their direct supervision. They will also be responsible for implementing goals objectives and resource requirements for their team as well as developing training plans and ensuring direct reports receive sufficient training. They must have the knowledge and skills to oversee advanced-level analysis and may be required to conduct their own analysis as needed. The position will be expected to stay abreast of the latest technologies theories and techniques in the fields of crime and intelligence analysis and law enforcement. They will regularly liaison with executive managerial and front line sworn and professional staff to make recommendations and inform on various analytical products.

Mon-Fri 7:00am-5:00pm with the potential for after hours.
Payrate:
$31.79hr - $39.24hr
