Special Education- Elementary
Location: The Parish School (Private School)
On Call- Flexible Schedule
Monday through Thursday: 7:30am to 3:30pm and Friday 7:30 am to 12:30 pm
Position Overview
The substitute paraeducator supports diverse learners in a language-based classroom. The substitute paraeducator works alongside a multidisciplinary team to incorporate therapeutic strategies and curricula that support whole child development including communication academic and social emotional domains. All instruction is provided in a nurturing environment through a multisensory learning approach incorporating nature-based education. The substitute paraeducator will work across classrooms as assigned to meet the needs of students and best support instructional staff as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Helps prepare materials needed for instructional activities.
- Helps prepare the classroom area daily for instruction including set up and clean up.
- Assists in small and large group lessons utilizing the schools adopted curriculum or lesson plan as guided by the classroom teacher/speech language pathologist.
- Provides classroom and behavior management support as guided by the classroom teacher and/or speech language pathologist.
- Supports instruction through the arts- Drama Music/Choir Art PE Library and Nature Studies
- Collaborates with teachers from various disciplines to promote a childs development in all areas.
- Assists with morning and afternoon carpool as assigned.
- May lead the class when the teacher/speech language pathologist is absent or serve as a substitute for instructional staff members depending on your assignment.
- Utilizes technology for various resources that support instruction and home to school connections.
- Maintains communication with staff and administration.
- Fulfills professional development requirements as outlined by the school.
- Completes other duties as assigned.

- The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold wet/humid and a variety of other climate conditions.
