Job Summary
Substitute nurse temporarily fills the role of a health office nurse during their absence ensuring continuity of care and maintaining a safe positive environment. The substitute follows established protocols and procedures; assists in managing chronic student conditions and supports students health and social needs throughout the school day.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs school nursing services under the supervision of the School Nurse Leader consistent with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health guidelines in addition to the local school district policy.
- Provides assessment and medical care for students and staff in the case of injury or illness as needed.
- Maintains appropriate documentation including electronic school health records daily logs medication administration accident/incident report and special needs encounters.
- Integrates health education in daily practice.
- Identifies the needs of students and staff and teaches health promotion and disease prevention as needed. Provides health education and counseling on an individual basis as needed to students staff and parents.
- Demonstrates and applies current nursing knowledge in school practice.
- Participates in ongoing professional development to maintain Massachusetts Registered Nurse License.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse in Massachusetts.
Current certification in CPR/AED.
Minimum 1 year Pediatric and/or Urgent care experience preferred.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES:
Must hold an RN or LPN license
CPR/AED certified
ABILITY KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Prior school nurse experience preferred.
Strong communication organization and assessment skills.
Experience with electronic medical records.

Salary: The daily rate for a licensed substitute nurse is $273.00/day.
