CLASSIFIED SERVICE JOB SPECIFICATIONJOB CLASS: CUSTODIALLEVEL: IPOSITION TITLE: CUSTODIAN - DAY OR NIGHT SHIFTCLASS DEFINITION:Positions within this class are characterized by having as their primary assignment cleaning and plant maintenance functions under the specific direction of the supervisor assigned. The custodial positions may have more than one supervisor depending upon the shift assigned or the time of year. Positions within this class have specific routines which must be followed in addition to having other tasks to perform which may vary from day to day or seasonally. Levels within this class are differentiated by virtue of the degree of primarily custodial duties which are required in relation to other associated duties such as driver warehouse worker and light maintenance work. Shift differentials are typically available for night DEFINITION:Under general supervision to perform custodial services required to maintain assigned building and adjacent ground areas in a clean orderly and secure manner; and to do related work as OF DUTIES: Sweep mop wax and seal floors Vacuum rugs and carpets Dust wash and polish furniture and woodwork Empty and clean waste receptacles Wash windows and walls Clean restrooms Sweep sidewalks and pick up papers Clean drinking fountains and polish metal work; Fill paper and soap dispensers Replace light bulbs; replenish supplies; turn out lights and lock doors and windows Guard assigned areas to prevent vandalism Assist in moving arranging and setting up furniture and equipment for special events and meetings including civic center assignments Make minor non-technical STANDARDS:Education and Experience - Any combination equivalent to completion of high school and one year experience in custodial work is and Abilities - Knowledge of the methods material and equipment used in cleaning various types of building surfaces and items of furniture; ability to maintain schedules providing for regular cleaning of all facilities assigned; ability to carry out oral and written instructions; ability to work cooperatively with others; ability to work with and around children; ability to relate well to parents and other ABILITIES: Visual capability to read handwritten or typed documents and the display screen of various office equipment and machines Able to conduct verbal conversation in English and other designated languages Able to hear normal range verbal conversation (approximately 60 decibels) Able to sit stand stoop kneel bend walk Able to stand in one space for sustained periods Able to sit for sustained periods of time Able to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and 100 pounds occasionally Able to push and pull objects weighing up to 300 pounds Able to sustain strenuous manual labor for 8 hours Able to exhibit full range of motion for shoulder external rotation and internal rotation Able to exhibit full range of motion for shoulder abduction and adduction Able to exhibit full range of motion for elbow flexion and extension Able to exhibit full range of motion for back flexion Able to exhibit full range of motion for hip flexion and extension Able to exhibit full range of motion for knee flexion Able to work in a wide range of temperatures. Able to work at various elevated heights in a safe and effective manner. Able to work with chemical agents in a safe and effective manner without allergic reaction.
