Job Title: Public Affairs Student Worker

Job Classification:Administrative and Office Services Student

Department: Baylor Collaborative on Hunger and Poverty

Work Schedule: 10-20 hours per week primarily between the hours of 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM

Desired Length of Employment: Fall/Ongoing

Pay Rate: $14-$17 per hour

Key Components:

  • The Public Affairs StudentWorker willassistwith a variety of projects related to policy and public affairs including:
  • Support the drafting of policy briefs memos fact sheets and blogs for internal and external use.
  • Attend meetings hearings and educationalsessionspertaining tofood insecurity and related fields to brief Collaborative staff.
  • Maintain update and coordinate government relations contact list through research and education initiatives led by Collaborative staff.
  • Conduct researchpertaining tofood insecurity and related fields (e.g. economic insecurity rural and urban poverty agricultural trends etc.) on state and federal legislative levels.
  • Assist the Public Affairs Coordinator and Public Affairs Director in relationship mapping and education priorities for the 2027 Texas legislative session.
  • Provide administrative support for policy and public affairs projects as needed.
  • Collaborate with staff to develop creative solutions that increase awareness of the Collaboratives programs and initiatives.
  • Serve as a participant in a pilot student development program helping test and refine a new experiential learning model through active engagement feedback and participation in professional development opportunities focused on hunger relief and community impact.
  • Contribute toprogram evaluation and continuous improvement effortsbyidentifyingchallenges testing processes documenting lessons learned and providing feedback to help shape and strengthen the student development program for future participants.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned in support of the Public Affairs department.
  • Educational requirements: A student seeking a degree in political science social work public relations communication public health professional writing and rhetoric or other related fields is preferred.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    - Current Baylor University student pursuing a degree in a field closely related to civic engagement and advocacy.
    - Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    - Experience in editing and research is preferred.
    - Familiarity with government food insecurity and poverty domestically.
    - Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
    - Experience writing memos fact sheets and policy briefs are a plus.
