Job Summary
The 148Chemical Engineering department seeks a motivated undergraduate student to join a facultyled research project for the Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 semesters. The position provides a stipend of $720 per semester ($15/hour for up to 48 research hours) and up to $800 for research materials and supplies. The student will gain handson experience in experimental design data analysis and scientific communication while contributing to cuttingedge chemical engineering research.
Responsibilities
- Conduct laboratory experiments and collect data under faculty supervision.
- Perform literature reviews to support project objectives.
- Analyze experimental results using appropriate software tools.
- Prepare weekly progress reports and maintain detailed lab notebooks.
- Assist in the setup calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols and university regulations.
- Order and manage research supplies within the allocated budget.
- Present findings at departmental meetings and seminars.
- Collaborate with other students and researchers on interdisciplinary tasks.
- Contribute to the preparation of manuscripts or conference abstracts.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled undergraduate student in Chemical Engineering or a closely related field.
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
- Basic knowledge of chemical engineering principles and laboratory techniques.
- Proficiency with data analysis software (e.g. MATLAB Excel Python).
- Ability to commit up to 48 research hours per semester.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated attention to detail and problemsolving ability.
- Experience with safety procedures and proper handling of chemicals is preferred.
- Eligibility to receive the Manning Undergraduate Research Award stipend.
- Positive attitude reliability and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
