Job Summary

Advisor is needed for the federally funded TRIO Talent Search (TS) program to provide direct academic/college admissions services to middle and high school students in a five-county service area.

Talent Search is one of the seven Federal TRIO Programs funded through the United States Department of Education designed specifically to assist limited income students and potential first-generation college students enroll in and successfully graduate from a post-secondary educational institution. The Talent Search program at Madisonville Community College serves 873 middle and high school students over a five-county region.

Job Duties:

Recruitment selection and enrollment of eligible participants from target schools.
Maintains relationships and coordinates meetings with target school personnel.
Conducts small group and individual meetings with TRIO TS participants.
Presents grade-appropriate workshops to participants on a variety of subjects to prepare students for academic success. Topics are dependent on age group and include preparation for college ACT preparation/academic testing careers leadership financial literacy educational building blocks stem activities and college admissions.
Provides one-on-one assistance to participants as needed including academic intervention college enrollment assistance advising and tutoring in rigorous advance placement and precollege mathematics and reading/English curriculum.
Implements and interprets academic and career assessments for participants.
Plans and attends annual career cultural and college campus visits with TRIO TS participants.
Maintains thorough and accurate documentation of services in accordance with federal regulations.
Assists in grant writing as needed.
Position requires overnight travel with participants at a minimum of once per year and for training at a minimum of twice per year.
Main work focus for these positions is anticipated in Caldwell Crittenden Hopkins and Webster County as well as Dawson Springs Independent Schools and at MCC North Campus.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualifications:
Bachelors degree related field and one-year related experience or equivalent required.
Requires a working knowledge of career and academic assessment; an understanding of human diversity; at least three years of experience working with youth like program participants.
Strong technological skills for documentation and presentations.
Effective communications skills demonstrating the ability to engage and develop enthusiasm with participants and school personnel.
Valid drivers license.
