Job Purpose Statement/s: The position of Teacher Special Education (Student Services Consultant) is for the purpose/s of improving student success in the general curriculum through staff development; assistance with program and individual student planning; team facilitation; and other special education team and building needs.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide assistance to classroom teachers special education case managers and other staff in creating opportunities for success for all students with disabilities in the regular school environment;
  • Attend IEP meetings review IEPs and assist in writing IEPs related to general education as requested by building case managers;
  • Serve as a resource to staff on general education curriculum adaptations of specific curriculum and implementation of IEP goals within general education classes.
  • Follow-up on individual student staff or parent needs;
  • Conduct in-service training for support staff teachers assistants volunteers and parents as requested;
  • Demonstrate effective instructional/behavioral techniques for teachers and support staff to use in the classroom;
  • Observe students and assist teachers in the development implementation and evaluation of positive behavior programs for students with emotional and behavioral challenges;
  • Provide technical assistance to staff related to students with emotional and behavioral challenges. This may include but is not limited to: conflict resolution data collection and evaluation modeling of effective strategies and effective communication;
  • Communicate with director building principals building team members parents out-of-district agencies and other school personnel as appropriate.

Job Requirements Qualifications:

  • Experience Preferred: Prior job related experience
  • Skills Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:

Skills in planning developing and implementing curriculum appropriate to students with disabilities and assisting students with disabilities in realizing success. Effective communication collaboration skills with students parents and other school personnel.

Knowledge of instructional theory and best practices curriculum state and federal regulations district policies variety of disabilities current best practices for special education.

Abilities to stand and walk for prolonged periods perform a variety of specialized and responsible tasks maintain records establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students parent other school personnel meet schedule and deadlines. Significant physical abilities include lifting/carrying/reaching/handling talking/hearing conversations near/far visual acuity/depth perception and accommodation field of vision.

  • Education Required: Masters Degree
  • Licenses Bonding and/or Testing Required: Appropriate certified license valid drivers License evidence of insurability and access to reliable transportation
  • Other: First aid card and cardiopulmonary resuscitation certificate

Terms of Employment: 192 days per year. Salary to be established by collective bargaining agreement.

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Boards Policy on Evaluation of Licensed Staff Personnel.
