Position Overview

This is a regular student intern position in which the student will participate in work designed to provide practical application of knowledge and skills within a professional setting. Duties may include but are not limited to assisting with projects conducting research supporting departmental initiatives analyzing data preparing reports or presentations and participating in meetings or training opportunities. Interns may also gain exposure to industry practices workplace expectations and professional networking opportunities. All duties and responsibilities are carried out under the supervision and direction of departmental staff or is a paid student employee position and is not required to be an internship for academic credit.

Hours per Week

  • 18 hours per week.
  • Tuesday and Thursday from 8am-1pm and Fridays 8am-5pm.

Department Specific Job Functions

  • Assist with day-to-day Human Resources operations and administrative tasks.
  • Support HR projects and initiatives including employee engagement training and organizational development efforts.
  • Help maintain employee records and ensure data accuracy in HR systems.
  • Assist with preparing reports presentations and HR-related communications.
  • Provide customer service by responding to basic employee and applicant inquiries and directing them as appropriate.
  • Support compliance efforts by helping track required documentation and deadlines.
  • Participate in meetings trainings and HR events as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Enrollment Requirements

Fall/Spring Semesters: All student employees must be enrolled at least half-time to be eligible to work any UCO student position. Half-time enrollment for fall/spring semesters is considered 5 hours for graduates and 6 hours for undergraduates. F1/J1 Visa students must be enrolled full-time to be eligible to work as a student employee. Full-time enrollment is 9 credit hours for graduates and 12 credit hours for undergraduates.

Summer Semester: To work in a regular student position during the summer semester students must be enrolled in at least 3 summer credit hours or be enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in the minimum credit hours required for their classification and employment type. Students enrolled in fewer than 3 summer credit hours will be subject to FICA taxes during the summer term which apply to both the student and the department. For Federal Work Study Program (FWSP) positions students must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours (undergraduate) or 5 credit hours (graduate).

Note: New incoming students are not eligible for student employment until the semester in which they begin classes.

Enrollment Exception: If the number of credit hours needed to graduate is less than the minimum number of hours required for student employment the student must obtain a letter from their Academic Advisor (stating the number of hours needed to graduate and anticipated graduation date) and submit it to Human Resources. This pertains to both regular and Federal Work Study Program positions. Contact for more information.

Qualifications/Experience Required

Position open to current UCO students majoring in Human Resources or similar field only.

  • Basic understanding of Human Resources principles and practices.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with attention to detail.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word Excel PowerPoint Outlook).
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple assignments.
  • Willingness to learn and take initiative in a professional office setting.
