Position Overview
The Student Engagement Center at the University of Kansas serves as a hub for student involvement leadership development impact programs and resources and community programs. Through the Student Engagement Center KU students deepen their connection to each other and KU by exploring communities and opportunities to thrive during their Jayhawk experience. Students will engage through registered student organizations leadership experiences and professional development workshops. The Center will impact students by providing for direct needs in the Campus Cupboard Pregnant and Parenting Pantry clothing closets and the Emergency Aid Network.
Jayhawks will build community as they connect with peers and engage in student support programs. The Student Engagement Center enhances existing programs by providing greater resources and deeper connections across Student Affairs.
Student Event Planners for the Student Engagement Center are responsible for strengthening the KU student experience through programmatic efforts.
Position Requirements
During the semester term of the appointment the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
Employment Conditions
(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.
(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
- Creating and implementing programs that encourage community and connection among all KU students.
- Actively seek collaborative opportunities with student organizations as well as other KU departments to garner widespread awareness.
- Working in collaboration with the social media/marketing manager to ensure proper branding is used for promotional marketing materials.
- Adhere to a programming budget.
- Serve as ambassador for the SEC during Involvement Fairs campus events and classroom visits by providing an overview of the offices programs and services to students staff faculty and affiliates.
- Provide tours of the Student Engagement Center during visit days to prospective students and their families.
- Manage and track attendance for SEC events.
- Completing administrative duties that include but are not limited to overseeing the SMRC and Suite 400 front desk communicating with guests and maintaining building space.
- Assisting in the creation of marketing materials.

- Prior experience working in an office setting and/or customer service.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills as evidenced by application materials.
- Experience using Microsoft Office Suite and Canva.
- Experience using social media for professional settings.
