Intermediate District 287 is looking fora Student and Staff Safety Manager!


Intermediate District 287 serves students in grades K-12 as well as transition age students (18-22 years old) from our 12 member districts in the west metro area. Our district offers a wide range of services and specialized programs primarily focused on setting IV special education that is designed to meet the diverse needs of our students. Reports to:Senior Manager of Health Safety & Security
Start Date:Anticipated start: November/December 2026
Contracted days:261 days

Salary:Minimum starting salary for Unaffiliated Managers is $79000

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in education special education social science psychology applied behavior analysis or a related field received from an accredited institution
  • Two (2) years of experience working with individuals with disabilities and/or complex needs.
  • Successful completion of a program providing specialized training in safety and security and crisis response.

OR:

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience as listed in the general education and experience above will be considered as having an acceptable substitution.

Preferred Experience:

  • Two (2) years of supervisory experience leading multi-site teams.
  • Two (2) years of experience leading large-scale safety and/or behavioral training.
  • Active Advanced CPI Certified Instructor (CI) credential ideally with specialized or advanced physical skills endorsements from a nationally recognized program. (e.g. CPI Ukeru PCM) (Or obtain within 1 year)
  • Manage the development execution and continuous improvement of district-wide Nonviolent Crisis & Behavior Intervention training ensuring alignment with changing workplace regulations and safety best practices
  • Proven instruction skills in adult learning principles and effective public speaking.

Essential Functions

The following identifies the essential functions of the position and is not intended to be an exhaustive listing of all duties.

  • Monitor investigate and evaluate staff injury reports to ensure appropriate responses are initiated.
  • Serve as the District 287 liaison with law enforcement medical fire and other first responders to promote interagency training collaboration drills and communication for crisis scenarios in the absence of the Sr. Manager of Health Safety and Security.
  • Facilitate and support the Return-to-Work program
  • Guide/support teams through post-critical incident reviews and evaluate restrictive procedure and workplace injury data to objectively assess and refine individual student interventions.
  • Partner with Special Education Student Supports and site administration to coach staff on complex student behavior problem-solving and evidence-based solutions.
  • Promote equitable safety practices and positive learning outcomes by embedding social-emotional learning community building and restorative practices across all building safety efforts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
