Storage Systems Engineer, Software Delivery & Technologies

The Storage Systems Engineer role within the Software Delivery u0026 Technologies (SDu0026T) organization is at the core of the Apple software release process. This Software Engineering Systems role is responsible for developing storage systems placing storage services into production and applying reliability engineering design to our storage infrastructure which is used by software engineers to develop Apple software for our customers around the world. Having depth and breadth of knowledge of storage infrastructure in a large-scale distributed environment is a strength youll need. The Storage Systems Engineer is part of the SDu0026T Enterprise team which is responsible for building and managing a portfolio of services relied upon by Apple Ru0026D. Our storage platforms are at the foundation in hosting Apple source code management and collaboration tools used by Apple software engineers world wide to develop test and release Apple software. As our Storage Systems Engineer you will drive design development and debugging of reliability performance and security engineering of our on-premise storage infrastructure instrument observability of storage and enterprise services lead service incidents to resolution and report on SLI/SLO metrics for visibility across the organization.

As a Storage Systems Engineer responsibilities include: nSoftware development to enhance storage reliability and performancenSecure architecture design and infrastructure engineering of storage platformsnDeployments configuration and monitoring of open source storage platforms at enterprise scalenAutomate continuous integration (CI) and continuous delivery (CD) pipelines of storage environments nEngineer and test in Development and UAT environments with goal of 99.9% uptime of Production environments nImplement observability of storage systems for monitoring alerting and metrics reportingnGenerate reports regarding service metrics on performance availability and reliability nChampion practices regarding change control management and incident response nnA successful Storage Systems Engineer will be expected to: nProactively communicate engineering project status to stakeholders and follow through on committed timelines nExplore engineering options to problems present risk vs reward then execute best approach nDemonstrate willingness to ask for clarification and increase awareness of the larger contextnCollaborate asynchronously with global team members across multiple timezonesnDraft RFC proposals document new processes and update existing documentation nEager and curious to learn across multiple technology stacks

Experience in designing distributed storage systems for reliability scalability security and performant HA/DR nExperience implementing and troubleshooting distributed systems across storage networking and securitynIncident management experience in managing customer-facing storage systems in 24/7 environment nExcellent judgment and integrity with ability to make timely and data-driven decisions nCapacity to adapt to changing requirements and anticipate the needs of stakeholdersnEducation: Bachelors in Computer Engineering Systems Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent work experiencenProgramming Language: Python Swift Go or similar

Uses agentic AI workflows regularly for triaging incidents and root cause analysisnApplies agentic AI coding tools for engineering development and test validationnExperience as storage administrator (e.g. NFS filesystem S3 object)nExperience with container platforms (e.g. Docker Kubernetes or similar)nExperience with monitoring and alerting (e.g. Prometheus Grafana or similar)
