Job Summary
Job Responsibilities
Prepare complex quarterly and annual statutory financial statements for Stewarts regulated title insurance companies with respective state department of insurance.
Assist in ensuring compliance with SAP NAIC reporting requirements and applicable state insurance regulations.
Prepare statutory schedules exhibits footnote disclosures interrogatories and supporting schedules.
Coordinate and manage statutory reporting deadlines to ensure timely filings with insurance regulators. Coordinate annual statutory audits and state insurance examinations.
Coordinate with External Actuaries for midyear and annual review of STG including preparation/review of all data and required schedules.
Prepare journal entries reconciliations and supporting documentation impacting statutory financial statements as applicable.
Prepare statutory surplus analyses reserve reporting forecasts capital reporting and other regulatory financial analyses.
Prepare periodic policy loss reserve calculations and schedules for the main underwriter subsidiary (STG) on both GAAP and SAP basis.
Prepare or assist in monthly investment accounting and recording of income and trading activity including monthly custodial account reconciliations.
Prepare monthly reinsurance accounting and reconciliations.
Monitor changes in statutory accounting guidance NAIC pronouncements and state regulatory requirements evaluating their impact on the Company.
Collaborate with Corporate Reporting and Operations Accounting teams to ensure accurate reconciliation between GAAP financial reporting and statutory financial reporting.
Research document and communicate complex statutory accounting conclusions including preparation of technical accounting memoranda and presentations to executive leadership auditors and regulators.
Support internal controls over financial reporting and maintain documentation supporting SOX and regulatory compliance.
Partner with Finance and Accounting leadership to improve statutory reporting processes through automation documentation and continuous improvement initiatives. Perform special projects as assigned by Finance and Accounting leadership.
Education
Bachelors degree in relevant field preferred
Experience
CPA
5 years of insurance statutory reporting experience with strong understanding of insurance company financial reporting and regulatory compliance
Experience preparing quarterly and annual statutory financial statements
Advanced Excel skills
Ability to research and interpret complex regulatory and accounting guidance and communicate conclusions effectively to management and external stakeholders.
Excellent analytical communication and project management abilities
Knowledge of internal controls and SOX compliance
