Job Summary
We are seeking a safety-focused and dependable CDL-A Truck Driver to perform local transportation movements while ensuring the safe efficient and timely delivery of products equipment and trailers between customer locations terminals warehouses and company facilities. This position operates within a designated local service area allowing drivers to return home daily while maintaining excellent customer service and compliance with all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong safety record professional driving experience and the ability to manage daily transportation activities with minimal supervision. Local CDL-A positions commonly involve dedicated routes yard moves shuttle operations and regional freight movements within a limited radius of the home terminal.
Responsibilities
Safely operate Class A commercial vehicles in compliance with all federal state local and company safety regulations policies and procedures while maintaining established schedules and safe driving practices.
Report vehicle maintenance concerns accidents incidents traffic violations or safety hazards promptly.
Perform local deliveries trailer shuttles yard moves and inter-facility transfers as assigned.
Conduct pre-trip post-trip and en-route vehicle inspections and accurately complete required documentation.
Verify shipping paperwork bills of lading manifests and delivery documents for accuracy.
Maintain regular communication with transportation leadership and customers regarding route status and delivery schedules.
Utilize electronic logging devices (ELDs) onboard communication systems and transportation management technology as required.
Assist with trailer spotting equipment positioning and yard management activities when necessary.
Provide professional and courteous customer service during pickups and deliveries.
Maintain a clean and professional appearance of assigned equipment.
- Support operational needs through schedule flexibility including occasional overtime when required.
Qualifications
Education/ Experience:
- Must have a valid Class A Commercial Drivers License (CDL-A) with a minimum of 3 years of recent CDL-A driving experience.
- Current DOT Medical Examiners Certificate.
- Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
- High school diploma or GED.
- Must pass a background check and DOT physical and drug screen
Experience operating tractor-trailers in local dedicated shuttle or regional environments preferred.
Clean driving record with a demonstrated commitment to safety.
Experience with electronic logging devices (ELDs) and familiarity with DOT compliance requirements preferred.
Skills and Ability:
- Strong knowledge of DOT regulations and safe driving practices.
Ability to safely maneuver tractor-trailers in customer yard and warehouse environments.
Effective time management and route-planning skills.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Ability to work independently and make sound decisions.
Basic proficiency with mobile communication devices ELDs and transportation software.
Ability to inspect equipment and identify maintenance or safety concerns.
Dependable attendance and reliability.
Work Conditions/ Physical Demands:
This position is performed in a vehicle yard loading dock and warehouse environment and requires regular physical activity. Essential functions include standing walking bending lifting and carrying materials weighing up to 50 pounds. The role involves entering and exiting commercial vehicles multiple times per shift. Must be able to sit for extended periods of time while operating the equipment. Performs vehicle inspections including bending stooping climbing and reaching. The role may involve repetitive motions operation of warehouse equipment and exposure to varying temperatures and noise levels. Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Travel:
- Extensive travel is required and may include frequent overnight stays and extended periods away from the primary work location (50% or more).
Pay & Benefits:
Compensation is determined by various factors such as location education knowledge skills competencies and experience as well as internal and external equity and organizational needs. Additionally this role is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus.
The salary range for this position is $22.70 to $27.30 hourly. The posted range reflects our national average range for the job. We may ultimately pay more or less than the published range based on the factors mentioned above. This range may be modified in the future.
