Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) is excited to offer an opportunity for a Senior SCADA Engineer to join our dynamic SCADA Sectiona team dedicated to keeping Seattles critical water drainage and wastewater systems running safely and reliably. Our SCADA Section manages the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition systems that monitor and control essential infrastructure across the greater Seattle area. We collaborate closely with planners engineers operations maintenance IT teams and many other groups whose work intersects with SCADA. From long-term system planning and development to maintaining 24/7 operational readiness our team plays a central role in protecting Seattles vital services.As a Senior SCADA Engineer youll lead the design operation and maintenance efforts for the hardware and communication systems that make up SPUs SCADA environment. Your expertise will help ensure that the systems powering Seattles utilities remain dependable secure and future-ready.

- Job Responsibilities
- This position is responsible for instrumentation and control engineering support across all lines of business in SPU
- Specifies process instrumentation and application
- Process safety instrumentation compliance
- Control panel project design cycle development and review
- Test plan development in support of commissioning activities
- The position supports multiple projects flight and in various phases of planning.
- Drainage and wastewater rehab program
- Ship canal water quality projects in construction TEPS and Ballad conveyance
- Solid waste line of business compactor replacements
- Water distribution system reservoirs pressure reducing station and pump stations
- The prioritize day-today services of this position
- Instrumentation and Control engineering best practice compliance
- Capital project and Operations project design review and development support
- Control system Project management
- Act as UO&M CxA and develop commissioning planning lead
- Manages design standards and guidelines
- Oversee and is responsible for designing quality Work
Environment/Physical Demands:
- Field assignments may entail exposure to all types of weather traffic hazardous/toxic substances and high voltage energized equipment
- May be required to work nights evenings weekends and/or holidays.
- This position is responsible for instrumentation and control engineering support across all lines of business in SPU
- Qualifications
Experience: Five (5) years professional electrical engineering experience
Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering OR other combinations of education and/or experience which provides preparation to do professional instrumentation and control engineering work
AdditionallyLicense/Certification:
- Registration as a Professional Engineer in Washington State
- Current driver license or evidence of equivalent mobility
Desired Skills/Experience:The scope of the job and the business needs experience in instrumentation and controls at an expert level understanding and capability in implementing standards requirements in the following areas:
- Experience with UL 508A national standard to the design of control panels.
- Experience with ISA 5.4 national standards to design control loop drawings or Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
- Experience with ISA/IEC 62443 national standard for the development of written control strategies.
- Experience with ANSI/OSHA 29CFR1910.119 to identify mitigate plan design strategize and address industrial process hazards.
- Experience with ANSI/ISA 84.00.01-2004 to address safety instrumentation life cycle.
- Experience with IEC 61131 to support industrial controller programming strategies and development of life cycle.

This position allows for the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule. Employees will be required to come into the office a minimum of twice a week. Individual schedules will be agreed upon by the employee and their supervisor and may be subject to change based on business needs.
