Sr Fleet Parts Specialist

Job Summary


The Senior Fleet Parts Specialist supports fleet operations by managing parts sourcing inventory levels and technical part selection for heavy-duty equipment. This role focuses on ensuring the right parts are available at the right time resolving complex parts issues and improving inventory accuracy and cost control. The position works closely with fleet leadership technicians and suppliers to support maintenance operations and minimize equipment downtime.

Key Responsibilities
1. Inventory Management & Optimization (30%)

  • Monitor and adjust inventory levels using usage trends min/max settings and demand patterns
  • Review stockouts excess inventory and slow-moving items; take corrective action
  • Standardize parts across fleet classes to reduce duplication and improve stocking efficiency
  • Conduct periodic inventory reviews and support cycle counts and reconciliation
  • Identify critical spares needed to support continued operations

2. Parts Procurement & Sourcing (20%)

  • Source parts from OEM and aftermarket vendors based on availability cost and application fit
  • Identify and implement alternate part options when items are unavailable or delayed
  • Place and track orders for critical or high-priority parts to support maintenance operations
  • Review vendor pricing and recommend cost-saving opportunities

3. Technical Parts Support (20%)

  • Provide guidance to technicians and supervisors on part selection for repairs and maintenance
  • Assist with identifying correct components for engines drivetrains hydraulics and electrical systems
  • Support troubleshooting by recommending parts based on failure symptoms and equipment history
  • Stay current on new parts equipment updates and supplier offerings
  • Provide parts support for specialty equipment used in the Utility industry

4. Supplier Coordination & Issue Resolution (10%)

  • Coordinate with suppliers to resolve order issues delays shortages or quality concerns
  • Track vendor performance related to delivery timelines and part accuracy
  • Support procurement or leadership teams with vendor-related data and feedback

5. Data Analysis & Reporting (10%)

  • Analyze parts usage spend and inventory data to identify trends and improvement opportunities
  • Prepare basic reports on inventory performance stock levels and parts availability
  • Support recommendations for cost control and inventory adjustments

6. Process Improvement & Operational Support (5%)

  • Identify inefficiencies in parts ordering stocking and distribution processes
  • Support improvements to workflows stocking practices and inventory controls
  • Participate in projects to improve parts systems or processes

7. Compliance Safety & Documentation (5%)

  • Follow company policies and safety requirements for parts handling and storage
  • Maintain accurate part records documentation and system data
  • Ensure proper labeling storage and handling of materials

Scope & Stakeholders
Supports multiple fleet maintenance locations
Works directly with:

  • Fleet technicians and supervisors
  • Fleet leadership
  • Parts vendors and suppliers
  • No direct reports; may provide informal guidance to other parts staff

Systems & Tools

  • Fleet maintenance management systems
  • Inventory management systems
  • Procurement or ERP systems
  • Microsoft Office (Excel Outlook etc.)

Minimum Requirements
Education

  • Associate degree in Supply Chain Automotive Technology Business or related field
  • OR equivalent combination of education and experience

Experience

  • 58 years of experience in fleet parts inventory management or procurement
  • Experience working with heavy-duty vehicles equipment or utility fleets

Skills

  • Advanced level of demonstrated experience of fleet parts and equipment systems
  • Ability to interpret parts data and adjust inventory levels
  • Problem-solving skills related to parts selection and availability
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
  • Effective communication with technicians vendors and internal teams

This position requires in office based on responsibilities.

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience with fleet or asset management systems
  • Experience working in utility construction or heavy equipment environments
  • Advanced Excel or data analysis skills

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $29.40 to $47.00 per hour
