Job Summary

The Sr. Drilling Engineer is responsible for planning engineering and supporting the execution of the companys drilling operations. This position requires a sound knowledge of well drilling and construction techniques and the ability to plan document and ensure the execution of a safe efficient and effective drilling operation.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepare and deliver properly engineered and practical drilling and well construction programs procedures and cost estimates.
  • Utilize continuous improvement practices in the well design process to reduce well cycle times & cost
  • Lead the technical planning process for assigned wells including well design casing and cementing programs and risk assessment.
  • Assist drill-site supervisors in the preparation of Plan Forward drilling procedures and guidelines to be reviewed with drilling crew and service crews in each phase of the operation.
  • Conduct offset data review of well histories and reconnaissance offset operations.
  • Evaluate select and procure well construction services and materials including tubulars wellheads cement bits directional and drilling contractors.
  • Evaluate and select efficient effective and safe service contractors and manage contractor performance.
  • Maintain close communications with drill-site supervisors and coordinate the preparation of quality daily drilling reports.
  • Maintain close communications with technical service representatives including cement mud and rental equipment.
  • Manage and maintain the WellView drilling database. Quality check field data input including casing tally cement data and wellbore schematics.
  • Ensure EH&S policies are adhered to across drilling operations.
  • Ensure that drill-site contractors are deploying safe work practices and that contractor safety programs are appropriate and in active practice.
  • Embrace a multi-disciplinary team approach to all aspects of the work.
  • Collaborate with staff geologists reservoir land production field supervision and EHS in planning and alignment with company goals and expectations.
  • Support State and Federal regulatory and environmental compliance and deliver professional testimony as required.
  • Participate in daily drilling operations conference calls.
  • Ensure all vendors comply with MSA requirements and execution.
  • Review and process invoices for accuracy cost efficiency and account coding.
  • Serve as a technical mentor to less experienced drilling engineers as the team grows.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelors degree in Petroleum Engineering Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline is required

Experience:

  • 10 years of experience in drilling engineering or significant field exposure to drilling operations.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Proficiency in well planning software drilling techniques and equipment (including horizontal/directional drilling and well control methods).
  • In-depth understanding of well control principles and drilling safety practices.
  • Proficiency with Aries WellView Petra and MS Office Suite.
  • Strong project management and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced team-oriented environment.
  • Creative problem-solver with high attention to safety detail and execution.
  • Experience with aerated drilling and/or Piceance basin drilling is a plus

Licenses/ Certifications:

  • Well Control Certification preferred.
  • Professional Registration (PE) preferred.

Compensation

The base compensation for this role in this location is targeted between $206000 and $255000 annually. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise and may vary from the range listed above.

Work Conditions

Location:

This position is in Denver CO. Candidates currently residing in locations outside of daily commuting distance will be considered however it is the expectation that the selected individual will be available at the work location.

Work Environment:

This position operates in an office environment. This entails working inside an office space wherein employees may be provided a public workstation (cubicle) or private office. From time to time the role will require field visits where exposure to extreme weather conditions fumes airborne particles vibrations dust electrical charges and other unforeseen exposures may be encountered.

Physical Demands:

In the performance of the duties and responsibilities of this job the employee is required to have visual acuity to operate a motor vehicle and view a computer terminal for prolonged periods of time. While at work sites the employee will be expected to walk and stand. Individuals might be asked to climb balance stoop kneel crouch reach and/or crawl. Individuals might be required to lift carry push or pull up to 50 the performance of this position.

Position Type and Working Hours:

This is a full-time position. Core work hours are from 8:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m. Monday Thursday and 8:00am 12:00pm on Friday. Employees must be capable and willing to work overtime as required and to participate in occasional meetings events seminars conferences or other activities outside of typical work hours. Employees responsible for project operations are expected to monitor and in some cases respond to emails calls or texts outside of business hours.

Travel:

Occasional travel to work site locations may be expected. Overnight stays may be required from time to time for training seminars field visits or visits to onsite locations.
