Job Summary
Job Description
DUTIES: Participate in driving on-track performance improvements through guiding long-term vehicle development directions and providing event specific vehicle configuration setup and strategy recommendations to supported race teams. Support all sportscar series objectives by performing analysis in a variety of areas including vehicle dynamics analysis simulation model correlation and refinement on-track rig-test and DIL data reduction and interpretation methods development competitor analysis and reporting tasks. Maintain relationships and alignment with supported race team personnel travel to occasional race and test events and closely collaborate with the many groups internal to GM motorsports. Collaborate with GM supported teams and GM personnel to understand team objectives contribute to a coordinated development effort and convey findings to all necessary groups. Continuously strive to improve GM Motorsports programs tools analysis methods and vehicle dynamics understanding by: reimagining and prototyping new and better solutions to common problems or questions correlating existing methods and validating new improvements against track and test data and working with GM Software team to implement solutions in our production tools. Implement vehicle simulation and data analysis methods to develop race winning solutions including race-specific setup refinement pre and post-event reports distributed directly to race team personnel conceptual studies to guide big-picture development efforts competitor analysis and event characterization and race strategy optimization. Clearly present findings recommendations and analysis results through well organized and actionable reports and in-person follow-up. REQUIREMENTS: Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering Physics Mathematics Automotive Engineering or related field of study and One (1) year of experience as a Performance Engineer Motorsports Engineer or related role. One (1) year of experience with the following: Top-level motorsports series including IndyCar F1 NASCAR IMSA WEC or similar; Race car setup event preparation technical inspection race procedures and race strategy; Race engineering; Simulation workflows in a professional motorsports organization including offline simulation and DIL; Using simulation tools to optimize vehicle performance; Programing in Python MATLAB and VBA; Analyzing on-track performance defining performance metrics and deriving actionable recommendations through application vehicle dynamics principles and statistical methods; Motorsports data
analysis software including Pi Toolbox Atlas Motec Bosch WinDarab and AIM Race Studio; Vehicle testing methods sensor instrumentation calibration and telemetry; and Data reduction for SPMM 7-post and on-track testing.
