Speech Language Pathologist Assistant (2026-2027)

SUMMARY:

Providespeech languagepathologyservices to students as directed bya supervisingTexasDepartment of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) licensed Speech-Language Pathologist or Texas Education Agency Certified Speech Therapist.

MAJORRESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Therapy

• Conduct speech language and hearing screening as directed by the supervising licensedSpeech-LanguagePathologist.

• Implement the treatment program or the individual education plan (IEP) as designed by the supervising licensedSpeech-LanguagePathologist.

• Conduct carry-over activities to transfer a students newly acquired communication ability to other contexts and situations.

• Represent speech pathology at the admission review and dismissal (ARD) Committee as directed by the supervisingSpeech-LanguagePathologist.

• Conduct observations and prepare clinical materials.

Consultation

• Work with classroom teachers to implement classroom activities to improve communication skills of students.

Student Management

• Create an environment conducive to learning andappropriate forthe maturity levelandinterests of students.

• Establish control and administer discipline according to the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.

Program Management

• Compilemaintain and file all reports records and other documents required includingmaintainingclinical recordsin accordance withfederal and state laws and regulations.

• Comply withpoliciesestablishedby federal and state laws State Board of Education rule and board withall district and campus routines and regulations.

Policy Reports and Law

• Maintain confidentiality.

• Develop andmaintainsystems for retrieval of information in support of all programs; compilemaintain file and secure all physical and computerized reports records and other required documents.

• Pursue Professional Development activities for self and assigned staff; ensure that Professional Development activities are aligned with District goals and initiatives and current professional research.

• Comply withall policies operating procedures legal requirements and verbal and written directives.

• Comply withthe Professional Code of Ethics and Standard Practices forTexasEducators.

• Follow District safety protocols and emergency procedures.

• Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

• Bachelors Degree inCommunicativeScience andDisorders

• Texas License as Speech-Language Pathology Assistant granted by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR)

Experience:

• One (1) year of successful supervised clinical speech-language pathology experience preferred.

• 50hoursof observation of therapyandassistingexperience as required for licensure

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

• Strong communication organizational and interpersonal skills

• Knowledge of speech-language disorders and conditions

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• None

Tools/Equipment Used:

• Standard testing equipment; standard office equipment including computer and peripherals

• Other specialized and adaptive equipment used by students

Posture:

• Frequent standing; kneeling/squatting bending/stooping pushing/pulling and twisting

Motion:

• Frequent walking grasping/squeezing wrist flexion/extension

Lifting:

• Regular light lifting and carrying (under 15 pounds) occasional heaving lifting (45 pounds or more) and positioning of students with physical disabilities; controlling behavior through physical restraint;assistingnon-ambulatory students

Environment:

• Exposure to biological hazards bacteria and communicable diseases

• May requiredistrictwide travel

• No remote work

Mental Demands:

• Work with frequent interruptions;maintainemotional control underpressure
