Special Education Classroom Aide

This position includes a $2000 new hire bonus which is paid after the successful completion of the first 30 working days of employment.

In addition to the new hire bonus this position also offers a $2000 retention bonus. New hires will receive the first $1000 installment in December upon completing the first semester with the remaining $1000 paid in June after finishing the school year. The bonus will be prorated for part-time employees.

Job Summary:The special education teacher aide assists the special education resource teacher or speechlanguage pathologist (SLP) with classroom duties to include providing academic support andoverall supervision ofstudents who experience mild to moderate disabilities.

New Hire Hourly Rate:Grade 5: $20.13- $22.51DOE
Internal Hourly Rate: Determined by the ESSA Negotiated Agreement
Work hours:7 hours per day
Work year:9 months
Bargaining Unit: Education Support Staff Association (ESSA)

Job Qualifications/Requirements (please review job description for qualifications and duties of the position):

1. Must meet at least one of the following three qualifications:
2. 1. A high school diploma or equivalent and have completed the ParaProfessional Assessmentor have the ability to pass the ParaProfessional Assessment within four (4) months of hire; or
   2. An associates degree or higher; or
   3. Completion of two years of higher education (at least 48 semester hours) or the equivalent
3. Non-violent crisis intervention training must be completed within six (6) months of hire.
4. Basic reading and math skills and a basic understanding of learning disabilities are required.
5. Clear and easily understood verbal communication skills in English.
6. Proven ability to communicate effectively with children.
