Minimum Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalency; 1 year of college credit (24 hours) from an accredited institution of higher education OR successfully pass the ParaPro Assessment prior to employment start date.

Essential Job Functions:

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

• Physical presence is an essential function of this job.
• Assists students individually or in small groups with lesson assignments (e.g. read stories listen to students read provide writing assistance reinforce English lessons provide spelling practice computer learning programs etc.) for the purpose of practicing and/or reinforcing learning concepts and assisting students in reaching academic goals and adhering to Individual Education Plans (IEP). Assistance may include providing students with visual auditory and tactile stimulations throughout the day.
• Assists with classroom assignments tests homework make-up work order to support Special Populations teachers in the instructional process. May help modify materials to fit individual needs. Communicates with supervising instructional staff professional support personnel and parents/guardians assist in evaluating progress and/or implementing IEP and/or academic objectives.
• Set-ups and facilitates individual workstations and assists with drill and practice group projects and seat work.
• Monitors individual and/or groups of students in a variety of settings (e.g. classroom playground field trips library bus loading/unloading etc.) in order to provide a safe and positive learning experience.
• If the IEP states will escort students to and from the lunchroom; monitor students in the cafeteria and hallways keeping noise levels reasonable; report discipline problems to cafeteria monitor and/or teachers; and may ensure tables and table areas are kept clean for the student being served.
• Reports observations and incidents relating to specific students (e.g. accidents fights appropriate and inappropriate social behavior violations of rules safety conditions etc.) to communicate information to the appropriate instructional and/or administrative personnel.
• Implements behavior strategies under the supervision of the Special Populations teacher that address a wide variety of behaviors that may include physical/verbal aggression and/or non-compliance.
• If required may assist with daily living activities (e.g. meals and meal delivery; toileting needs; monitoring medical conditions; lifting transferring and positioning students as instructed by teacher and/or therapist).
• Maintains classroom routines while the teacher performs other educational duties. Complies with all policies established by the district state and federal law.
