Job Summary/Basic Functions

Student Assistants in Special Collections and Archives are expected to be able to work independently with little supervision. They must be detail oriented able to follow instructions and maintain confidentiality. A work schedule is typically ten hours a week between 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Duties include but are not limited to:
Processing of manuscripts university records and photograph collections.
Organizing preserving and describing materials according to established archival practices.
Conducting research to write descriptive metadata.
Digitizing indexing and abstracting oral history interviews.
Metadata creation optimization and normalization
Working in WMS to optimize records in the book collection.
Assisting patrons if required via incoming phone calls or in person.
Doing to research to find sources scanning and/or making photocopies.
Solving technical problems and creating workflows for digitization processes.
Uploading content to digital collections website and creating online exhibits
Occasionally assisting with department events i.e. Friends of the Library
Curating materials for our social media.
Remediating mold on selected items.
Paging and shelving materials and shifting books or boxes.
