DESCRIPTION

The Solid Waste Laborer assist in various tasks related to waste collection recycling and disposal. This entry-level position involves performing manual labor operating equipment and maintaining cleanliness at waste collection sites to ensure the efficient and safe handling of solid waste materials.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience in waste management recycling or related field is advantageous but not required.
  • Must possess a valid Drivers License Class C at time of placement.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team to accomplish tasks and meet objectives.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new procedures technologies and equipment used in waste collection and disposal operations.
  • Strong work ethic reliability and punctuality in attendance.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks including standing bending stooping climbing lifting and carrying heavy objects up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and environments.

MAJOR DUTIES

  • Assist in the collection and disposal of solid waste materials from residential and commercial areas including loading and unloading waste containers onto collection vehicles.
  • Sort recyclable materials from non-recyclable waste at designated collection sites following established guidelines and procedures for recycling and waste separation.
  • Operate equipment such as hand trucks dollies and forklifts to transport waste containers and materials safely and efficiently.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks on collection vehicles equipment and facilities such as cleaning fueling and basic repairs to ensure proper functioning and compliance with safety standards.
  • Follow established safety protocols procedures and regulations to maintain a safe working environment for oneself and others including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to occupational health and safety standards.
  • Communicate effectively with coworkers supervisors and members of the public to coordinate work activities address service requests and provide assistance as needed.
  • Other Duties as assigned

This position is an essential service position and will require providing services during emergency situations.
