Job Summary

Data Gateway democratizes access to People data by delivering secure scalable services to builder teams across Amazon. This enables business-critical functionalities and accelerates FPDSs mission to power Amazons growth and People management at scale. Data Gateway powers over 2000 applications with 270.5 billion API calls in 2025 representing 70% growth year-over-year. Data Gateway serves 5000 customers through integrations like Andes datasets and through Maple secures 24 million employee records across 160 applications processing 8.8 billion authorization requests annually. These services power critical employee experiences for Amazons 3 million workforce worldwide.

Data Gateway encompasses five product areas. Real-Time APIs and Notifications (PAPI DAAPI PeopleBus DomainBus) Integrations (BIF DIME Phoenix Andes Datasets Employee Data Orchestrator) Data Materialization (DMat) Authorization (Maple and MySupport) and Segmentation (Associate Data Store). This position is for the Authorization team that owns Maple and MySupport product.

Maple is Amazons purpose-built authorization service for the PXT ecosystem answering the question general-purpose access control systems cant: whether a specific person has permission to access another persons data. It operates on person-to-person population relationships securing row-level access to 24.34M employee and alumni records across 160 applications and processing 8.8B authorization requests annually.

* Collaborate with technical teams customers and stakeholders to understand problems deeply and develop thoughtful solutions
* Write clean well-tested code and participate in code reviews to maintain high standards across the codebase
* Mentor and support other engineers through knowledge sharing and collaborative problem-solving
* Take ownership of features and services from design through production ensuring reliability and performance

A day in the life
As a Software Development Engineer on the Authorization team youll focus on designing and implementing scalable systems that serve our customers globally. Your day might include collaborating with cross-functional teams to understand intricate business problems writing and reviewing code that meets our highest standards and contributing to the architecture of products that enable Amazon to operate seamlessly. Youll participate in code reviews engage in technical discussions with colleagues across different teams and take ownership of features from conception through deployment. Beyond core development work youll have opportunities to mentor peers share knowledge through technical discussions and help shape the future direction of our platform.

- 3 years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2 years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 1 years of software development engineer or related occupational experience
- 1 years of designing and developing large-scale multi-tiered multi-threaded embedded or distributed software applications tools systems and services using: C# C Java or Perl experience
- 1 years of Object Oriented Design experience
- Bachelors degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science Engineering Mathematics or a related field
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language

- 3 years of full software development life cycle including coding standards code reviews source control management build processes testing and operations experience
- Bachelors degree in computer science or equivalent

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience qualifications and location.
