Details:
The Soft Craft Specialist reports to the Lead Planner/Coordinator and is responsible for planning coordinating and executing all soft craft activities within an assigned project area throughout the turnaround or project lifecycle. This role serves as the primary liaison between Operations Maintenance contractors and the turnaround team to ensure work is completed safely efficiently and on schedule.
Key Responsibilities
Planning Phase
- Conduct field walkdowns to verify project scope materials and work requirements.
- Photograph equipment and job sites and develop detailed work packages using the planning tool.
- Plan and estimate soft craft activities including painting insulation scaffolding and related work.
- Verify paint and insulation specifications for assigned jobs.
- Coordinate with Operations and Maintenance to arrange scaffold installation or insulation removal needed for field verification.
- Review contractor quotations for accuracy and validate proposed scope.
- Partner with the scheduler to develop job logic sequencing and execution plans.
Execution Phase
- Serve as the Area Coordinator during project execution.
- Coordinate and oversee all soft craft contractors working within the assigned area.
- Monitor contractor progress and ensure work status is accurately reflected in daily reporting.
- Partner with the scheduler to track productivity and maintain schedule adherence.
- Ensure contractors comply with all site safety requirements and company policies.
- Monitor contractor staffing levels to ensure resources align with workload.
- Coordinate with Inspection to identify additional or discovery work.
- Complete Additional Work Requests (AWRs) delay documentation and other required reports.
- Participate in daily turnover and rollover meetings and provide status updates on assigned work.
Ongoing Responsibilities
- Maintain a safe and organized work environment.
- Continuously evaluate turnaround planning and execution practices and recommend process improvements.
- Support maintenance activities and capital projects as assigned.
- Perform other duties as required to support turnaround and maintenance operations.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of industrial experience in soft crafts maintenance turnaround planning field coordination or a related discipline within the energy refining petrochemical or industrial manufacturing industry.
- Experience coordinating contractors and field activities during turnarounds or maintenance events preferred.
- Strong understanding of scaffolding insulation painting and other soft craft disciplines.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints P&IDs work permits technical manuals and safety procedures.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office including Word and Excel.
- Excellent organizational communication and coordination skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and perform effectively in a fast-paced industrial environment.
- Valid drivers license with an acceptable driving record.
Physical Requirements
- Work both indoors and outdoors around industrial process equipment in varying weather conditions.
- Climb ladders and work at elevated heights as required.
- Frequently stand walk bend kneel crouch and lift materials and equipment.
- Lift up to 50 pounds regularly and move or transport loads up to 75 pounds.
- Apply up to 100 ft-lbs. of torque using hand tools and equipment.
- Wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE) including emergency breathing apparatus when necessary.
- Respond to visual and audible alarms and safely navigate active industrial work environments.
- Ability to work overtime respond to call-outs and travel domestically as needed.
- Must reside or be willing to relocate within one hour of the assigned reporting location.
