Job Summary
This position is located in Social Work Service of the Bay Pines VA Healthcare System. The duties and responsibilities are carried throughout the HealthCare Center including all clinical and other patient care areas involved with the services.
Duties for the position may include but are not limited to:
- Primary responsibility of the Social Worker (Program Coordinator) is to provide leadership guidance and direction for the clinical and administrative findings for the Social Work clinical internship program evidence-based practice coordination trainings and continuing education of the staff in Social Work Service to include coordination licensure supervision of appropriate staff.
- Administers information and analytical systems to evaluate and enhance the quality of service provided to patients.
- Develops and implements information systems to track service activities including visits referrals inpatient days patient demographics equipment utilization and patient satisfaction.
- Collaborates with subject matter experts and community partners to streamline clinical educational programs for Social Work Staff.
- Responsible for key project activities related to the planning development and implementation of the project component.
- Ensures adequate program coverage and makes changes accordingly.
- Performs specialized treatment of complex physical or mental illness.
- Incorporates complex multiple causation in differential diagnosis and treatment of Veteran patients including making psychosocial and psychiatric diagnosis within approved clinical privileges or scope of practice.
- Develops and implements methods for measuring effectiveness of social work practice and services in specialty areas utilizing outcome evaluations to improve treatment services.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Full Time Monday-Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm.

Basic Requirements:
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- Education: Have a masters degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the masters degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to to verify that the social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a masters of social work.
- Licensure: Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the masters degree level.
- English Language Proficiency: Social workers must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C. 7403(f)
Grade Determinations: In addition to the basic requirements for employment the following criteria must be met when determining the grade of candidates.
Social Worker (Program Coordinator) GS-12.
(1) Experience and Education. One year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment demonstrating progressively more professional competency. Candidate may have certification or other post-masters degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship or equivalent supervised professional experience.
(2) Licensure/Certification. Individuals assigned as social worker program coordinator must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level and must be able to provide supervision for licensure.
(3) Demonstrated Knowledge Skills and Abilities. In addition to the experience above candidates must demonstrate all of the following KSAs:
- Knowledge of program coordination and administration which includes consultation negotiation and monitoring.
- Knowledge and ability to write policies procedures and/or practice guidelines for the program.
- Ability to supervise multidisciplinary staff assigned to the program.
- Skill in organizing work setting priorities meeting multiple deadlines and evaluating assigned program area(s).
- Ability to provide training orientation and guidance within clinical practice.
Preferred Experience: Experience with VA trainees/interns. Experience in developing education material and planning education events.

Physical Requirements: The physical demands of the work requires use of fingers; moderate walking and standing; near vision correctable at 13 to 16 to Jaeger 1 to 4; far vision correctable in on eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other; hearing aid permitted; clear speech; emotional stability; moderate duty.
