Looking for a role in highway maintenance with more responsibility variety and opportunities to progress
Do you want secure practical work where your experience makes a real difference NY Highways is looking for a Highways Skilled Operative to join our close-knit team based in Brompton-on-Swale near Richmond working across North Yorkshire.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Highways Operative looking to build on existing skills take on more technical work and continue developing their career within a respected local employer.
What youll be doing
As part of a supportive experienced team youll help maintain and improve the local highway network carrying out a wide range of routine and reactive works including:
- Kerbing drainage patching and ironwork repairs
- Installation of street furniture and general site maintenance
- Traffic management activities and verge maintenance
- Operating highways plant tools and equipment
- Supporting emergency response activities and out-of-hours callouts
Youll also take part in an out-of-hours emergency callout rota.
This is a hands-on outdoor role working in all weather conditions. Full PPE and outdoor clothing are provided.

Youll be successful if you have:
- Experience carrying out highways maintenance activities
- Level 2 qualification in Highway Maintenance or equivalent practical experience
- Banksman Abrasive Wheels Emergency First Aid certification
- Manual Handling and Safe Dig training
- Traffic Management TM1 and TM2 qualifications
You will also:
- Enjoy practical hands-on work comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
- Take pride in delivering work safely and professionally
- Work well as part of a team
- Respond flexibly to operational requirements
