How Will You Make an Impact
Our new Bioprocess Design Center is an innovative facility dedicated to demonstrating and training customers on our innovative single-use technologies Upstream and Downstream solutions cell culture media cell lines resin and analytical offerings. We are seeking an experienced Senior Scientist Downstream Process Development & Resin Design-In to lead chromatography process development resin selection and customer process-design activities.
This is a senior customer-facing technical role combining deep downstream process expertise with commercial and strategic acumen. The successful candidate will lead the BDCs Resin Design-In capability partnering directly with biopharmaceutical customers to understand purification challenges develop data-driven solutions and translate experimental results into scalable process recommendations.
Working across customers commercial teams R&D product management and applications this individual will serve as a trusted technical advisor and chromatography subject-matter expert using scientific evidence to accelerate customer decision-making and adoption of Thermo Fisher downstream technologies.
What Will You Do
Downstream Process Development & Technical Leadership
- Lead resin selection screening benchmarking and chromatography process-development programs across capture intermediate and polishing operations.
- Independently design and execute studies evaluating resin performance dynamic binding capacity breakthrough behavior residence time loading wash/elution conditions impurity clearance and process robustness.
- Apply DoE and data-driven approaches to optimize processes and develop technically defensible resin recommendations.
- Develop scale-down models and scale-up strategies supporting translation from laboratory development to manufacturing.
- Serve as a downstream chromatography SME and mentor scientists and engineers in experimental design troubleshooting data interpretation and scale-up.
Customer & Commercial Engagement
- Serve as a senior technical advisor to customers evaluating chromatography and downstream processing solutions.
- Lead technical discovery discussions and translate complex customer challenges into structured process-development programs.
- Present experimental strategies results and recommendations to customer scientists engineers and technical leadership.
- Partner with commercial and field teams on strategic opportunities technical workshops customer demonstrations and pre-sales activities.
- Translate technical performance into customer value related to productivity scalability robustness operational efficiency and risk reduction.
Resin Design-In Capability & Innovation
- Own and advance the BDCs Resin Design-In capability including standardized workflows for resin screening process optimization data analysis and reporting.
- Develop reusable technical tools decision frameworks application data and customer-facing technical packages.
- Partner with R&D and product management to translate customer insights and experimental evidence into product application and workflow improvements.
- Collaborate across upstream filtration analytical automation and process-modeling teams to develop integrated and next-generation bioprocess solutions.
- Identify emerging customer needs and industry trends that can inform new BDC capabilities services and commercial opportunities.
How Will You Get Here
- B.S. in Chemical Engineering Biochemical Engineering Biochemistry Biotechnology or related discipline with 8 years of relevant industry experience; M.S. with 6 years; or 3 years or equivalent experience.
- Significant hands-on experience in downstream bioprocess development and chromatography process optimization for biologics.
- Strong knowledge of chromatography fundamentals including resin selection binding capacity breakthrough behavior residence time column sizing and process scale-up.
- Experience with multiple chromatography modalities such as Protein A affinity ion exchange mixed-mode or hydrophobic interaction chromatography.
- Demonstrated ability to independently design experiments analyze complex data troubleshoot process performance and translate results into actionable recommendations.
- Strong technical communication and presentation skills with the ability to engage both scientific and business stakeholders.
- Experience in a customer-facing technical applications consulting or technical sales-support role strongly preferred.
- Experience with DoE process characterization competitive resin benchmarking and/or scale-down model development preferred.

Compensation and Benefits
The salary range estimated for this position based in Massachusetts is $115000.00$155000.00.This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company team and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy.
