Job Summary

At the Center for Health Information and Analysis (CHIA) we serve as stewards of Massachusetts health data employing multifaceted datasets and cutting edge analytics to ensure transparency in our health care system. Our hybrid approach allows you to work alongside your colleagues in our vibrant Boston office at 501 Boylston Street for at least two designated days per week with the flexibility to work remotely on others.

Join us at CHIA and be a driving force in health policy impact! We seek a Senior Research Manager to help lead and manage our growing research projects within the dynamic Strategy and Research team.

The Senior Research Manager will work closely with the research team and other colleagues at CHIA vendors and stakeholders. She/he will help lead and support the development of practical and optimal strategies for expanding and enhancing CHIAs capacity in addressing ongoing and emerging health care information and data gaps particularly in the areas such as health care coverage and affordability behavioral health health care utilization health care equity and social determinants of health. The Senior Research Manager will be responsible for managing analyst(s).

As a Senior Research Manager you will have the opportunity to:

  1. Lead Strategic Project Management:Take charge of organizational excellence by crafting and overseeing work this role you will ensure that projects are executed successfully within defined timelines while adhering to streamlined and efficient processes.
  2. Lead Research Analysis: Lead the design and production of in-depth research and statistical analyses on targeted topics primarily using CHIA data sources such as survey data Case Mix databases and the All-Payer Claims Database and oversee related public reporting efforts.
  3. Empower Collaborative Teams:Manage guide and support analyst(s) in creating planning and delivering high-value research and analytic products while providing coaching and mentorship that strengthens technical skills collaboration and professional development. This is your chance to optimize the teams utilization of CHIAs data resources and other assets fostering collaboration for impactful outcomes.
  4. Drive Data-Backed Insights:Seize the opportunity to work with an extensive range of data on health care coverage access and affordability. You will be at the forefront of producing and reviewing clear and comprehensive written analyses graphics tables and presentations using CHIAs rich data sources to unearth crucial insights that will inform and shape health care policies and initiatives.
  5. Champion Data Integrity:Lead and participate in advancing comprehensive practices in data collection documentation data quality assurance and management meticulous attention to detail and unwavering commitment to accuracy will play a crucial part in upholding the integrity of our data and analyses.
  6. Engage stakeholders: Represent CHIA in stakeholder meetings training sessions multi-agency meetings vendor engagement and/or workgroups as assigned and produce high level summaries and/or presentations to relevant business units and senior managers at CHIA.

Here are the important qualifications we are looking for:

  1. Management Expertise: At least five years of full-time or equivalent part-time professional administrative or managerial experience the major duties of which involved project coordination administration and management.
  2. People Management and Employee Development: Demonstrated experience of leading and developing high-performing teams through open communication active listening and a people-centered management approach. Ability to address challenges and performance concerns directly and constructively balance employee perspectives with organizational needs build trust and accountability navigate difficult conversations and provide candid actionable feedback that supports employee growth and organizational success.
  3. Research Background:Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with research methods with a strong understanding of health care data and research in survey data processing analysis and reporting and/or case mix claims data analysis strongly preferred
  4. Data Strategist: Experience with statistical programs such as SAS Stata R and visualization programs such as Tableau a plus.
  5. Effective Communication: Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills with an ability to articulate complex technical issues clearly and persuasively. Engage stakeholders and foster collaboration through compelling communication.
  6. Team Leadership and Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to serve as a trusted thought partner build strong cross-team partnerships foster collaboration and promote a positive and inclusive team culture.
  7. Health Care Knowledge:Experience working with or within a state or federal agency focused on health care health insurance or public healtha plus!
  8. Educational Background:Advanced degree in social sciences public policy public health or quantitative field required; experience in health services research epidemiology program evaluation or related field strongly preferred.

Total Compensation:

We value the talent and expertise you bring to the table. We offer a competitive salary range of $117000 - $130000 for this is commensurate with experience. CHIA may adjust title responsibilities and salary depending on the experience and expertise of the individual selected.
