Job Summary
- Associate Degree in Mechanical/Engineering Technology preferred.
- Five or more years of technician experience with mechanical or electro-mechanical assemblies are required.
- Demonstrate ability to interpret drawings and schematics.
- Willing to travel (50%).
- Boating or shipboard experience is stronglypreferred.
- Experience assembling maritime systems is strongly preferred.
- Experience on Diesel Engines is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of common test instrumentation hand tools and laboratory practices required.
- Professional written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize tasking.
- Ability to work extended hours to meet program goals.
- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions (on water away from land).
- Ability to work in tight quarters and confined spaces.
- Ability to swim.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret level security clearance.
- Working knowledge of Military specifications is a plus.
- Working knowledge of Military hardware is a plus.
- Experienced small boat handler is a plus.

About This Role
Textron Systems leading developers of high-performance Unmanned Systems a proven partner for both military and commercial applications is offering a full-time opportunity for a Mechanical Technician to support our growing family of unmanned naval products. Our teams are engaged in multiple cutting-edge development programs for domestic and international programs. This position provides an opportunity to travel execute experimental military hardware testing and develop new skills. This position reports to the Unmanned Surface Vessel Lab Manager.
The strong candidate will have hands-on experience in the test integration and maintenance of mechanical systems and will be ready to work in a fast-paced position also includes supporting on-water operations of surface systems serving as a small craft operator safety lookout or support crew members.
The candidate should be able to demonstrate the following competencies:
- Read assembly documentation (i.e. Work Instructions Drawings etc.) parts lists and diagrams to assemble and install a wide variety of components.
- Operate test equipment.
- Assemble and troubleshoot drive train components and hydraulic actuation systems.
- Use small hand tools such as tap and die hand drills impact guns wrenches screwdrivers and pliers in the confines of a small naval craft.
- Use equipment such as drill press band saws and hydraulic press.
- Identify and document work order instructions test procedures and drawing errors.
- Assist engineering in issue resolution as part of a design build or test team.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain operate and troubleshoot ocean-going Unmanned Surface Systems and support craft.
- Assist Engineers and Designers with prototype development and testing.
- Support offsite qualification testing in accordance with written procedures.
- Develop operational and technical manuals.
- Interface with existing and prospective customers and service members at operational and maintenance demonstrations.
- Actively perform lab maintenance safety audits and material tracking.
- Promote a safety-first mindset for all on-site lab and off-site testing and personnel.
