The Director - Tax Planning and Controversy plays a significant leadership role in global tax planning initiatives for the Ferguson tax team. Location:

This role is located out of Fergusons future corporate office in Tampa FL (Gasworx neighborhood Ybor City). Candidates local to Tampa will initially work remote until offices open in Spring of 2027 then full time in the office. Some travel to Fergusons main HQ in Newport News VA during onboarding will be required.


Responsibilities:
  • Identifies global federal and state tax planning opportunities and is responsible for leading planning initiatives including transfer pricing analyses management cost allocation studies merger and acquisition activities restructuring and other projects.
  • Provides leadership and guidance to Tax Manager and Tax Analysts supporting these above initiatives.
  • Plays a leadership role in significant income tax audits and engages periodically in supporting indirect tax audits. Interacts with tax authorities on behalf of the company.
  • Proactively engages with Fergusons business partners to support their tax needs and become a trusted resource for the business leaders.
  • Handles external service providers.
  • Ensures that reporting and compliance impacts of planning initiatives are well communicated and reflected in Fergusons tax reporting and compliance and any SOX requirements related to projects and planning are properly accomplished.
  • Leads tax special projects and supports tax aspects of corporate wide initiatives.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of tax laws affecting the company use knowledge of these laws to identify risks and opportunities and updates relevant stakeholders.

Qualifications:
  • 10 years accounting firm and corporate tax experience. Exposure to international and US state planning a plus.
  • 5 years tax planning and controversy experience.
  • Strong technical knowledge of tax laws regulations and accounting principles.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills ability to interact as a proactive strategic business partner.
  • Team player with the ability to work with remote team members and support cross functional goals.
  • Strong business acumen and analytical skills.
  • Proficient with technology commonly employed by finance and tax departments.
  • Bachelors degree in Finance or Accounting or related field.
  • Masters in Taxation or CPA preferred.

Pay Range:

$9409.50 - $17833.30

Estimated Ranges displayed are Monthly for Salaried roles OR Hourly for all other roles.

This role is Bonus or Incentive Plan eligible.
