ABOUT THE POSITION

The Senior Commercial Litigation Paralegal at Jimerson Birr operates at the intersection of business strategy and courtroom advocacy and has earned the autonomy to prove it. This is not a conventional paralegal role and this is not a conventional seat within it.

Our clients are small to mid-sized businesses operating companies financial institutions real estate developers healthcare entities and executives who face high-stakes disputes that threaten their operations assets and reputations. The matters you will support span commercial litigation business torts breach of contract trade secret and non-compete enforcement fiduciary disputes real estate litigation employment disputes and creditors rights among others. The complexity is real the timelines are demanding and the outcomes matter deeply to the people and organizations we serve.


You are a self-sufficient litigation professional; someone who no longer needs to be told what to do next and who has the track record to prove it.

You manage complex matters from intake through verdict or resolution with minimal oversight serve as a trusted point of contact for clients and attorneys alike and actively shape the systems that make your team better.

You bring ingenuity to your work finding new paths through complex terrain and delivering solutions that reflect both analytical clarity and creative problem-solving.

You are a calm composed presence amid competing demands capable of navigating multiple stressors without losing focus or quality.

At the senior level execution alone is not the ceiling. You mentor the paralegals around you contribute to the refinement of litigation matter plans and workflows and serve as a process leader within the paralegal corps. Your expertise isnt just applied its transferred.

In this role you manage all assigned attorney support functions from intake through verdict or resolution.

You own the integrity of your casework the reliability of your deadlines and the readiness of your attorneys while simultaneously elevating the paralegals who work alongside you.


What Youll Do

  • Vet new clients perform intakes open matters conduct initial conflict checks and execute seamless handoffs to attorneys with full case context prepared
  • Support complex commercial and business litigation matters including breach of contract business torts trade secret disputes non-compete enforcement real estate litigation fiduciary claims and creditors rights proceedings
  • Develop case strategy by conducting thorough legal research drafting legal memoranda and correspondence and obtaining key information from relevant parties witnesses and third-party sources
  • Draft review and manage a high volume of litigation documents including pleadings motions discovery requests and responses subpoenas proposed orders and settlement agreements
  • Manage discovery from end to end: coordinating document collection organization and production; supporting E-Discovery workflows; and maintaining defensible chain-of-custody documentation
  • Navigate state and federal civil court systems manage electronic filings and ensure full compliance with court rules local administrative orders and applicable deadlines
  • Coordinate and manage all court deadlines scheduling orders deposition calendars and attorney appointments across multiple simultaneous matters
  • Prepare attorneys for hearings depositions trials mediations and arbitrations assembling exhibits witness files binders and all supporting materials with precision and thoroughness
  • Serve as a trusted point of contact for clients on assigned matters delivering proactive updates maintaining client portals and managing expectations with poise without supervision
  • Mentor and support junior paralegals providing guidance on firm processes matter plan execution and professional standards; model the behaviors that define JBs paralegal team
  • Lead or meaningfully contribute to the refinement of litigation matter plans templates and trial checklists: identifying at least one process form or workflow improvement per review cycle
  • Support non-billable team functions including workflow management purchase orders shared calendars and shared inboxes
  • Take on special projects as assigned approaching each with the same ownership mindset you bring to your daily casework

What You Bring

Experience & Knowledge
  • Minimum of 5 years experience as a paralegal with direct exposure to complex commercial or business litigation; demonstrated ability to manage complex matters independently with minimal oversight
  • Demonstrated ability to support attorneys across the full litigation lifecycle; From intake and discovery through trial preparation and post-judgment proceedings
  • Hands-on experience with legal research document review and management motion drafting deposition coordination and E-Discovery
  • Familiarity with business litigation matters such as breach of contract trade secrets business torts real estate disputes or creditors rights is strongly preferred
  • Experience mentoring or training junior staff contributing to onboarding or leading process improvements within a legal team
  • Proficiency across the full litigation technology stack: Microsoft Suite Adobe Acrobat Pro Litify NetDocuments EverLaw LexisNexis eFax CSC Prepare and state and federal filing systems
