The Transportation Department of the North Central Texas Council of Governments is seeking an individual to assume a leadership role on the Land-Use and Mobility Options program team oversee staff activities and implement programs and projects related to public transportation specifically within the area of Transit Regional Coordination and Mobility Management. This position offers an exciting opportunity to participate and discuss public transportation projects in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area with internal staff transportation planners public and private transportation providers local governments communities and other stakeholders. The official title for the individual in this position will be Senior Transportation Planner. Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Developing traditional and innovative transit service delivery in a multimodal environment across a multi-county region
  • Supporting new regional transportation programs policies and partnerships to improve mobility strengthen transit coordination and address emerging transportation needs
  • Identifying emerging transportation trends and developing innovative solutions and program improvements
  • Monitoring and coordinating project activities including budget expenditures
  • Documenting project progress and ensuring accurate and timely completion
  • Handling special assignments outside of daily tasks
  • Assisting supervisor to oversee the development of transportation plans and studies including management and coordination with consultants
  • Participating in the collection and analysis of data
  • Supporting various committees public outreach and events
  • Organizing and attending workshops and training
  • Researching analyzing and interpreting Federal State and local regulations pertaining to transportation planning and funding
  • Preparing and reviewing memorandums letters documentation articles executive summaries and technical reports
  • Preparing and delivering oral presentations
  • Supervising staff

Required Skills

  • Detail oriented highly organized with an ability to handle multiple assignments/tasks and work well in a deadline-driven environment without diminishing the quality of work
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word Excel PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Strong critical thinking problem-solving skills and interpersonal skills
  • Strong communication both verbal and written skills
  • Experience developing and tracking work projects/programs schedules budgets and performance measures.
  • Familiarity with Census data and American Community Survey (ACS) data for analysis
  • Familiarity with public transportation planning mobility management transit operations or transit-related programs is preferred
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Familiarity working with diverse stakeholders (e.g. elected officials government public transportation agencies technical staff interest groups etc.)

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelors degree in analytical quantitative methods (i.e. urban planning transportation planning public administration urban geography or a related field); Masters degree desired
  • At least three years of work-related experience (experience in planning preferred)

Starting Salary Range

Minimum of $74800.00 - $89760.00 annually

Since 1974 the NCTCOG Transportation Department has served as the Metropolitan Planning Organization for transportation in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metropolitan Area and is responsible for developing transportation plans and programs that address the complex needs of the rapidly growing area. The planning area for transportation includes the 12 counties of Collin Dallas Denton Ellis Hood Hunt Johnson Kaufman Parker Rockwall Tarrant and Wise.
