The Role

BGC is seeking an experienced Senior Geological/Geotechnical Engineer to be part of our new office in Anchorage AK. While Anchorage would be a new geography for BGC BGC has been supporting projects in Alaska since 2007 in particular mining and transportation projects. The ideal candidate will be an expert in one of more of the disciplines in which BGC provides consulting services: engineering geology geohazards groundwater rock mechanics soil mechanics or surface water.

The successful candidate will work closely with other engineers and geoscientists help to mentor junior staff provide technical review and engage with clients old and new. BGC operates as One Team with a focus on connection between people sectors technical disciplines and offices across the globe to provide clients with innovative common-sense solutions partnered with quality addition to Alaska projects the successful candidate will work with our global team to help develop our client-base in line with BGCs strategic this role the successful candidate will provide technical leadership excellent client service and advancement of innovative practices while practicing our core values of One Team Excellence Curiosity Common Sense and Clarity.

This position is located in Anchorage AK. Regular travel to other BGC offices and project locations will be required.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a project engineer or geoscientist and technical lead for specific aspects of mining and/or transportation projects
  • Manage projects including proposals budgets schedules staffing and scope
  • Manage multi-disciplinary project teams potentially working in remote and challenging environments
  • Travel as required which could occasionally include extended shifts at remote sites
  • Organize and supervise field programs including: geohazard site investigation geohazard mitigation design and construction monitoring
  • Author or co-author reports
  • Train mentor and supervise technical work of junior and intermediate staff
  • Work with client and partner representatives
  • Contribute to recruiting efforts for junior and intermediate staff
  • Travel to other BGC offices on occasion to foster team connectivity and participate in business development and planning initiatives
  • Participate in business development including identifying new opportunities promoting BGCs capacity for undertaking innovative and advanced projects and writing proposals
  • Help promote BGC vision values and culture amongst BGC staff

Required Education Experience & Competencies

  • 10 to 20 years of relevant professional engineering or geoscience experience including in engineering consulting. Applicants with fewer or more years of experience than this may also be considered at a seniority level commensurate with their experience
  • Post-graduate degree in the candidates relevant field (e.g. Geotechnical / Civil Engineering)
  • Registered as a professional engineer in the state of Alaska (PE)
  • Technical expertise and project management experience in mining and/or transportation sectors
  • Familiarity with cold regions / permafrost engineering and science principles
  • Familiarity with geotechnical software such as SLOPE/W Slide2 RSPile LPile PLAXIS TEMP/W FLAC or similar
  • Experience in mentoring delegating and directing junior and intermediate level staff in-person or remotely on technical and non-technical topics.
  • Exceptional communication skills in English both written and oral and the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Desired Education Experience & Competencies

  • Existing Canadian Professional Engineering (.) Registration or eligible for registration for a . within 3 years
  • Experience with cold regions engineering principles and practices (e.g. frost heave permafrost thermal design monitoring analyses)
  • Experience with deep and shallow foundations design slope stability analysis slope stabilization and/or earth retention

Position Requirements

Drug & Alcohol Testing

This testing could be requested within an employees first week or in the future as required. Drivers License

BGC requires that employees have a valid drivers license and that employees can drive a field pickup truck. Upon hiring BGCwill requirea drivers abstract to allow for a safety review of your driving history.

Wage Range

The estimated base salary range for this position is $115000-$180000 USD per annum however base pay will be commensurate with job-related knowledge skills and experience. BGCs compensation package also includes a discretionary bonus plan training allowance and comprehensive medical and dental plan.
