Job Summary

The Facilities Engineer participates across the full lifecycle of Chord Energys upstream surface facility assets in the Williston Basin from development planning through detailed design and project execution to ongoing operations support and optimization. The primary focus is on central tank batteries (CTBs) and multi-pad developments connected via flowlines including the associated separation storage and produced-fluid-handling equipment at the CTB.
This role requires a strong understanding of the design construction and operation of upstream surface facility assets and the versatility to move fluidly between planning execution and operations work as project and business needs dictate. This position is based in downtown Houston TX with travel to North Dakota and would consider candidates located in North Dakota as well (Williston Watford City or Dickinson). A hybrid work schedule offers remote work on Mondays and Fridays. Level and salary commensurate with experience.
Key Responsibilities
  • Partner with Development and Reservoir Engineering to translate Chords multi-year development program into facility capacity pad and CTB planning requirements
  • Lead conceptual engineering and scoping for new pad/CTB development including capacity assessments tie-in evaluations and infrastructure gap analysis
  • Prepare cost estimates and AFE-level economics for capital projects from conceptual scoping through detailed estimates; support annual and multi-year capital forecasting cycles
  • Collaborate with the Marketing team and third-party midstream providers to understand fluid spec requirements (oil gas produced water) and system capacities and translate those into CTB design requirements
  • Manage project execution and technical scope from detailed design through procurement construction and commissioning/start-up
  • Direct and coordinate the work of engineering/drafting and multi-discipline contractors (civil mechanical electrical instrumentation & controls) to deliver facility designs on schedule and budget
  • Review and approve P&IDs PFDs plot plans and equipment specifications; drive design optimization for cost constructability and operability
  • Perform or oversee hydraulic and equipment sizing calculations for flowlines pumps compressors separators and other surface equipment
  • Manage contract engineering services ensuring designs meet API/ASME codes and Chord design standards
  • Lead construction-phase technical support RFIs field walkdowns and punch-list resolution through commissioning and start-up
  • Serve as primary facilities engineering support during commissioning and the post-first-production period (through 60 days) ensuring a smooth handover from Execution to Operations
  • Troubleshoot day-to-day operational issues on surface equipment at CTBs
  • Evaluate existing facilities to determine upgrades or modifications needed to support new pad development workovers or changing production profiles
  • Monitor facility performance data (SCADA ProCount) and recommend process or equipment changes to improve reliability and efficiency
  • Partner with Production Engineering and Operations on shutdowns curtailments and other facility-related production impacts
  • Lead or participate in PHAs Risk Assessments and Incident Investigations
  • Develop and/or advise on Facility SOPs and design best practices
  • Support and maintain project/operations KPIs and reporting; perform project lookbacks after completion
  • Collaborate with Marketing Operations Land Legal Regulatory and Accounting along with external contractors equipment providers government agencies regulatory bodies landowners and other producers
  • Contribute to safety leadership on the Facilities team

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in engineering (Mechanical Chemical Civil or related)
  • 3 years of oil and gas facilities engineering experience
  • Working knowledge of P&IDs PFDs and hydraulic/network modeling (PipeSIM Pipeline Toolbox or similar)
  • Operations background with understanding of the design construction and operation of facility assets
  • Strong interpersonal and analytical skills; ability to work with internal and external contacts across engineering disciplines and business functions
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced fluid environment; flexible with the demands of a growing company
  • Efficient in Microsoft 365
  • Strong economic and cost-estimating skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • 10 years of oil and gas facilities engineering experience
  • Familiarity with fluid specifications and takeaway capacity constraints across third-party gathering/midstream systems (oil produced water gas)
  • Central Tank Battery (CTB) design or operations experience
  • Experience with capital forecasting AFE processes and multi-year development planning
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional/multi-disciplinary initiatives and mentor junior engineers
