The ideal candidate is an adaptable and creative journalist with experience in top-tier media organizations who will help drive innovative and timely storytelling set news agenda and manage content production.
TheSeniorEditormusthave several years of experience working for daily commercial news organizations. The experience should include meticulous line-editing often under tight deadlines factchecking ensuring accuracy and adherence to ethical standards and helping reporters to conceptualize and shape high-impact stories.
NGN showcases news about innovation across Northeasterns academic and research enterprise including but not limited to stories about discoveries innovations across multiple areas such as artificial intelligence health engineering computer science data science and the humanities to name a few.
NGN covers newsworthy stories across Northeasterns global system of campuses in the US UK and Canada. Stories focus on examples of leadership and innovation throughout the university in areas including experiential learning programs research teaching and campus life inside labs classrooms and beyond. NGN also provides commentary and analysis by faculty experts on timely topics that captivate national and global conversations. It is a highly data-informed organization with ambitious goals and impeccable standards.
The SeniorEditormust be capable of delivering accurate and timely edits across multiple platforms. We expect curiosity accountability creativity along with a commitment to precision and speed.
This role is perfect for a journalist who is well-versed in a plethora of topics from science technology and AI to health and wellbeing sports and pop culture. The person in this role thrives in a fast-paced environment has great news judgment and understands how to mold copy to reach readers across digital platforms. The SeniorEditorwill be adept at crafting compelling SEO-friendly headlines and captions.
NGN is part of Northeasterns Communications team in External Affairs. Reporting to the ExecutiveEditorof NGN the SeniorEditoris part of a team of journalists who work closely with media relations social media and multimedia teams within Communications.
The position is based on the Boston campus and is fully on site five days a week. Remote or hybrid work are not an option. As is the case for every member of the Communications team after-hours work including weekends and holidays is routinely required.
- Edit a variety of stories including global breaking news features enterprise pieces and articles focused on artificial intelligence innovation experiential learning programs research teaching and campus life among other areas.
- Edit stories to ensure they are clear engaging and accessible to readers.
- Craft compelling SEO-friendly headlines and captions.
- Work closely with reporters to evaluate and refine story pitches shape coverage and maintain high standards of accuracy.
- Help reporters develop reliable sources and maintain strong relationships across the Northeastern community and relevant stakeholder groups.
- Collaborate with media relations social media and multimedia teams to enhance stories with data graphics photos and video.
- Monitor analytics and audience metrics to inform reporting and follow-up coverage.
- Adhere to guidelines and fact-check thoroughly.
- 5 - 7 years editing experience with a commercial daily news organization (digital or print).
- Demonstrated ability to edit a wide range of stories with speed and accuracy.
- Experience assigning stories and managing content production.
- Strong source-building skills.
- Experience using AI tools.
- Excellent news judgment.
- Experience interpreting public documents filings and data.
- Ability to multitask manage deadlines and respond quickly to developing stories.
- Familiarity with digital publishing tools is a plus.
Experience with multimedia or video reporting
Data journalism or basic visual storytelling skills
Knowledge of SEO and audience engagement strategies

$67855.00 - $95845.00With the pay range(s) shown above the starting salary will depend on several factors which may include your education experience location knowledge and expertise and skills as well as a pay comparison to similarly-situated employees already in the role.
