Job Summary
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Maintain the safety and security of district facilities by installing repairing and managing mechanical and electronic locking systems access control systems and security hardware. Ensure effective key control respond to security-related work orders support compliance with district and state safety standards and provide timely technical support to maintain secure learning and working environments.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education / Certification
High school diploma or GED
Valid Texas drivers license
Certificatein Facilities locksmith throughthe State of Texas
Special Knowledge / Skills
Knowledge of mechanical and electronic locking systems
Familiarity with access control software and security systems
Ability to use tools and equipment related to locksmithing and maintenance
Basic computer skills for work order systems and documentation
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive security information
Good communication skills and customer service skills
Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively with a strong sense of urgency
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work to work independently
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
Experience
A preferred certification in facilities locksmith valid in the State of Texas or five
years of experience performing locksmith duties in a school or other multi-building organization key system.
Experience preferred in direct maintenance experience with keyless access control
Experience preferred with fire alarm systems in a commercial building
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Facility Security & Access Control
Install repair and maintain door hardware locks and locking systems across district facilities
Program electronic access control systems
Monitor and respond to access/security system issues and alarms
Maintain secure key control systems including issuing tracking and auditing keys
Ensure all campuses and facilities meet district safety and security standards
Locksmith Duties
- Cut duplicate and issue keys
- Rekey locks and cores as needed for security or personnel changes
- Maintain master key systems and ensure proper documentation
- Diagnose and repair lock malfunctions
- Maintain inventory onsite for common failures
Work Orders & Documentation
- Receive prioritize and complete work orders related to safety and security
- Accurately document work performed materials used and time spent
- Follow up on incomplete or ongoing work orders to ensure resolution
- Maintain records of key distribution
Customer Service & Public interaction
- Interact professionally with staff students vendors and the public
- Respond to security related requests and concerns in a timely manner
Safety Compliance & Protocols
- Adhere to and support compliance with all district safety procedures emergency protocols and state-mandated School safety standards; actively assist in maintaining readiness for audits inspections and compliance reviews
- Attend and participate in general district safety meetings and trainings
- Follow all district safety procedures and emergency protocols
- Assist with safety inspections audits and security assessments
- Support emergency response efforts when needed
Collaboration & Support
- Work closely with campus administrators district and department staff to address security needs
- Coordinate with technology and security teams on integrated systems
WORKING CONDITIONS
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Continual walking and standing; frequent heavy lifting and carrying; climbing
stooping bending kneeling and reaching. Exposure to extreme temperatures
dust fumes and odors and excessive noises. Exposure to mechanical electrical
and chemical hazards. Work around moving objects or vehicles. Work outside
and inside.
