  • Security Officer 2:$18.58 - 29.88/hour.

Summary

This positionis responsible foroverseeing and securing school buildings and the NMSD campus grounds with security functions carried out both during and after normal school hours. The primary focus is tomaintaina safe school and work environment while also deterring vandalism property damage and unwarranted loitering on school grounds.

The incumbent will alsobe responsible forplanning and monitoring both vehicle and foot traffic flow in and around school buildings ensuring that only authorized personnel are on campusin accordance withestablished procedures.

All duties are expected to be performed in a positive professional and receptive manner that supports and advances the mission and vision of the New Mexico School for the Deaf.

This is a full-time position working 30 to40 hoursper week primarily on a weekend schedule (Saturday and Sunday) withadditionalweekday swing shifts (4:00 PM to midnight) as assigned.

It isanticipatedand expected that all functions of this position will be performed in a positive and respectful manner with a strong focus on advancing the mission and vision of New Mexico School for the Deaf.The duties and competencies listed are comprehensive yet not all inclusive of this position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities(Other duties may be assigned)

Under the direction of Security Department leadership the Security Officer ensures the safety and security of personnel buildings equipment and campus grounds. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Patrol and Surveillance

  • Routinely patrols assigned areas on foot or in a vehicle.
  • Examinesdoors windows and gates to ensure they are secure.
  • Monitors security systems including cameras alarms and gates.
  • Watches for and reports irregularities such as fire hazards water leaks or unlocked security doors.
  • Soundsalarms in case of fire or unauthorized presence.
  • Maintains the orderly flow of automobile traffic in parking lots.
  • Assistsinmaintaininga safe and orderly environment across campus grounds.

Emergency Response and Safety

  • Assistsadministrators and staff in crisis and emergency situations.
  • Notifies administrative staff police fire department or otherappropriate authoritiesin emergencies.
  • Assistswith fire drills and emergency building evacuations (e.g. lockdown shelter-in-place evacuation).
  • Performs periodic checks of boilers andreportsmalfunctions asrequired.
  • Informs and warns violators of rule infractions such as loitering smoking or possession of forbidden articles.

Community Support and Interaction

  • Provides escort services for students staff faculty visitors or individuals transporting funds.
  • Offers publicassistance including lockout services and general information.
  • Demonstrates ethical and professional behavior in interactions with students staff parents and external agencies.
  • Protects confidentiality of staff records and sensitive information.
  • Modelsnondiscriminatory practices in all activities.

Administrative Support

  • Prepares standardized reportsmaintainslogs and records incidents asrequired.
  • Gathers data compiles information and prepares reports.
  • Reports maintenance concerns toappropriate personnel.
  • Participates inappropriate in-servicetrainingsand workshops.
  • Attends and successfully completes all staff development training asrequired.
  • Abides by SecurityDepartmentguidelines directives and post orders.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Worksweekends or afterhours asrequired.
  • Assistsin campus snow removal when needed.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and safety procedures.
  • Skilled in the use of building security systems and lock procedures.
  • Capable of detecting and reporting safety or security issues.
  • Effective communication skills both oral and written.
  • Strong ability to resolve individual complaints and concerns.
  • Must be able to provide safe and efficient transportation including driving a school vehicle whenrequired.

Requirements

  • Mustpossessa valid New Mexico drivers license.
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check and drug test.

Position-Specific Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:High school diploma or equivalent required.

Additionalphysical work:Someadditionallifting and other physical work (standing walking patrollingsittingand climbing stairs) isrequiredforthis position. Weight and distancers will vary.

Excellent Organizational and Communication Skills:This position requiresstrong communicationskills for effective interaction with various departments parents staffvisitorsand external vendors. The employee is also expected todemonstratea high levelof organizational ability.

Licensing:

  • Security Guard 1:A Security Guard License (Level 1or2) issued by the State of New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department (NMRLD) is preferred but notrequiredat the time of hire.

  • Security Guard 2:A Security Guard License (2 or 3) issued by the State of New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department (NMRLD) is preferred but notrequiredat the time of hire.

Depending on the position level the employee must be able to obtain an NMRLD Level 1 or Level 2 license within three (3) months of hire.
