Position Summary:
The Security Officer safeguards the physical assets personnel visitors and property of the Ohio History Connection by maintaining a visible security presence and responding to incidents alarms and emergencies as directed. This role conducts patrols monitors access points and security systems documents incidents and activities they are involved in and communicates relevant information and unresolved issues to the Security Lead or supervisor.
Essential Functions:
Maintains security of grounds buildings equipment and persons through patrols and safety tours
Locks and unlocks buildings gates and rooms as directed
Monitors access points and verifies proper authorization for entry and exit
Responds to alarms incidents and emergencies as directed
Provides first aid when necessary
Conducts investigations and inspections and completes required security reports and logs related to incidents and activities they are involved in
Communicates relevant information incidents and unresolved issues to the Security Lead or supervisor in a timely manner
Answers telephones and transmits and receives radio communications
Monitors fire and security alarm systems as assigned
Provides information and assistance to staff and visitors
Observes and reports weather conditions or environmental concerns
Performs other duties as assigned
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma PLUS one to three years working experience or post-secondary degree or technical certification from an accredited institution in a relevant field
Desired Skills and Experience:
Comfortable communicating with staff and the public.
Ability to learn and use various office software suites to perform essential functions of position
Knowledge of proper operation and safety procedures for equipment necessary to perform essential functions
Valid Ohio Drivers License
Required Competencies:
CPR/First Aid certified
Can locate and use resources to get things done uses resources effectively and efficiently and arranges information in a useful manner.
Assumes accountability of role and responsibilities; anticipates the needs of others
Able to process information in a consistent manner simultaneously displaying adaptability when necessary
Able to carry out duties assigned by supervisor
Able to identify and resolve issues efficiently and effectively
Work Environment:
Works both in indoor and outdoor settings which includes exposure to weather conditions (heat cold precipitation ice)
Indoors may be in a site or museum building in shared workspace such as the Control Room or other shared office/work area. Indoor work may include climate-controlled public space with LED (overhead and computer screens) fluorescent and natural lighting. Exposure to typical indoor environmental noise will occur including air-handling/ventilation systems business equipment (fax copier printer) telephones conversation and movement of people around the building.
May work a varied schedule that includes evenings and weekends.
