Job Summary
The District Registered Nurse (RN) is an essential member of the districts Student Support and POHI (Physical or Otherwise Health Impaired) Teams. This position focuses on promoting the health safety and overall well-being of students across the district.
Key responsibilities include supporting students within the POHI program coordinating health services district-wide ensuring compliance with federal and state health regulations and serving as a health advisor and educator. The RN provides guidance for ill or injured students and those requiring medically necessary care maintains accurate medical documentation implements appropriate health response procedures and contributes to health education and wellness initiatives within the school community.
Education Licensure and Certification
- Current Michigan Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Masters degree in Nursing
- Current CPR certification (must be maintained throughout employment)
- BLS or ACLS (preferred)
- Certification as a CPR/AED instructor with ongoing maintenance to provide staff training
- Experience working with school-aged children families and medical professionals

- Maintain reliable regular and punctual attendance.

- Develop update and maintain district health-related policies protocols and procedures based on evidence-based practices and guidance from the Macomb County Health Department Van Dyke Public School District and Macomb Intermediate School District.
- Maintain data and fulfill all required state and federal health reporting obligations.
- Provide direct medical support for students requiring specialized procedures (e.g. catheterization suctioning medication administration etc.)
- Train and support school staff in the care of medically fragile or health-compromised students
- Participate in student evaluations and develop individualized health care plans for students with chronic or complex medical conditions.
- Respond to medical emergencies and guide parents physicians and hospitals; refer non-emergency concerns to the appropriate personnel or communicate with families to ensure these concerns are addressed.
- Collaborate and communicate with families school staff and community agencies to support student health and wellness.
- Provide professional development and refresher training to staff related to health routines CPR and AED use.
- Assist office staff with maintaining immunization records and other required medical documentation.
- Identify and request appropriate health supplies and equipment; assist with inventory management.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Service.
