The School Field IT Technician serves as the primary hands-on technical support professional across designated school sites. This individual ensures seamless day-to-day operation of site technology including classroom devices interactive flat panels network infrastructure and district software.
A central responsibility of this role includes Chromebook Fleet Managementoverseeing inventory distribution user check-out/check-in basic repair and support via the Google Admin Console. Additionally this technician assists with local field maintenance of our HP Aruba network infrastructure including access points PoE switches and wireless client connectivity.
- Manage end-user device inventory check-out/check-in procedures and device tracking using our Asset Management System.
- Deploy configure and maintain student and staff Chromebooks through the Google Admin Console (OU assignment forced installs network profiles and policy enforcement).
- Perform triage basic hardware diagnostics and component replacement (screens keyboards batteries) for damaged Chromebooks.
- Manage warranty repairs RMA processes and vendor communications for damaged or defective hardware.
- Provide hands-on field support for site networking hardware primarily within an HP Aruba environment.
- Perform basic troubleshooting of wired and wireless network connectivity issues (Wi-Fi dropouts VLAN assignment checks cabling verification).
- Physical installation mounting trace testing and basic configuration of HP Aruba Wireless Access Points (APs) and PoE switches.
- Assist Network Engineers with patch panel cabling switch port management and closet cleanups.
- Resolve daily helpdesk tickets submitted by teachers administrators and support staff in a timely professional manner.
- Setup troubleshoot and maintain classroom technologies including Interactive Displays document cameras desktop computers and network printers.
- Assist with user account provisioning password resets and multi-factor authentication setup (Google Workspace Active Directory MiniOrange).
- Support technology setups for school assemblies board meetings and specialized testing windows (e.g. state standardized testing).
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Associate degree or technical trade certification in Information Technology Computer Science or a related field strongly preferred.
- Experience: 13 years of hands-on technical support experience (K-12 educational setting preferred).
- Technical Certifications (Preferred):
- Google Certified Educator or Google Admin credentials.
- CompTIA A / Network.
- HP Aruba Associate (ACMA/ACSA) certification is a strong plus.
- Hardware/OS: Proficiency in Google Chrome OS Windows 10/11.
- Google Workspace: Solid working knowledge of the Google Admin Console for device and account management.
- Networking: Basic understanding of TCP/IP DNS DHCP VLANs and wireless standard protocols (Wi-Fi 6/6E) with specific familiarity with HP Aruba Central being highly desirable.
- Soft Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills patience with non-technical users and a strong customer-service mindset when dealing with students and staff.
- Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (boxes of devices network equipment) climb ladders to access access points and stand/walk for extended periods during school deployments.
