School Counselor- Monroe Middle School

Position: School Counselor
Location: Monroe Middle School
Reports To: Building Principal
Position Start Date: 2026ï½2027 School Year

Qualifications

• Masters Degree in School Counseling or related field required.
• Valid Michigan School Counselor credential preferred.
• Candidates who do not currently hold a valid Michigan School Counselor credential may be considered provided they are willing to enroll in an approved school counseling program during the fall of 2026. The selected candidate must obtain the coursework and endorsement requirements necessary for Michigan school counselor certification within two years of hire.
• Experience working with middle school students preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with students families staff and community agencies.
• Knowledge of graduation requirements post-secondary planning career readiness and social-emotional supports.
• Strong communication organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive student information appropriately.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Primary Responsibilities

• Provide academic career and social-emotional counseling services to students.
• Assist students with course selection scheduling graduation planning and post-secondary opportunities.
• Support students in developing educational and career goals.
• Coordinate and participate in student intervention meetings Section 504 meetings and other support services as needed.
• Monitor student progress attendance and graduation requirements.
• Collaborate with teachers administrators parents and outside agencies to support student success.
• Provide crisis intervention and referrals to community resources when appropriate.
• Maintain accurate student records and counseling documentation in accordance with district state and federal requirements.
• Support building initiatives related to student achievement attendance behavior and school climate.
• Participate in professional development and district/building meetings as assigned.
